handling and shock absorbtion
I have an amazing 91 lx accord w/ 220k, everything that has to do with the suspension is as old as the car.
My handling is still as good as it ever was, but the smoothness isnt quite there. My dad had the car before me, i suppose it was always a little bumpier ride then new cars, but essentially, i want good control and not to have to feel every bump in the road
the 91 accord is really really low, like 6 inches off the ground. thats normal right?
So, I know there are issues like sway bars and bushings when it comes to a reactive steering wheel, but id describe my problem as more of a loose feeling, i want really tight steering.
so, the problem is i dont want to throw around my passengers everytime i hit a bump. i notice that heavier cars, that are higher up feel much more smooth, my girlfriends 95 maxima is a decade old yet is a very smooth ride. so im not sure if age correlates with smoothness.
So how do diagnose whats causing this? im no mechanic, but ive got a little experience, ive gotten a fused tranny bolt off, changed all my fluides, done some body work--well it was just putting a new fender on, eheh. ...ok, the struts come to mind, those are central part of the shock abosrbtion system? i have no problem buying a compressor, or whatever is needed. also i heard i could trade my old struts in and get new ones for $20, is that true, do car places like autozone work on a trade in system?
thanks for the help. help me! i love this car and i am going to drive it for the rest of my life, ill replace every goddamn thing that brakes less its my frame.

If you find a place that will do struts on trade like that post it!
as for the ride, yea you will need struts if you are feeling that much. Yet alone I would look over the coil springs.
if you hear a clunk when you hit any kind of bump, I would look at the sway bar ends. Might have rubber missing.
I did it the easy way, bought an Energy Suspension Hyper flex master kit to replace all my front end bushings. My 91 accord is a CA car, and was highly ignored.
So rebuilding the whole front end and suspension. Mods will come later, king of.
Doing an A6 intake, Custom Headers, changing some colors under the hood. Cleaning up any rust I see or find as I take things off. Cleaning up motor, replacing timing and balancer shaft belts. So yea, lucky I can do all the work myself.
Good luck
and if need more information any or pics I can get some online to post.
