I am having some car steering problem on my 2006 Honda Accord for the last week or two. I am not sure is this related to an alignment problem, wheels or the worse, suspension problems.

I notice the car steering is getting very loose when driving on the road. I really need to hold on tight to get the steering in control. The biggest problem is when the car hits a road bump, the steering will get out of control from straight to a little right and I need to control the steering back straight. When I make turns especially right turns, it takes more steering control than before or what I try to control.

Also, I think I do hear a pumping sound very silently once in a while when driving.

Can someone help and suggest what possibly needs attention? Thanks

Check your tie-rods: Lift up the front of the car so pressure is off the suspension and put it on jack stands (safety first). Grab the wheel/tire and try to move it side to side. Any side to side movement= bad tie-rod(s). Any top to bottom movement= bad balljoint. Either one of those possibilities is very dangerous and you need to fix it asap.

$100-500 depending on what's warn out.

5 years!? I have to change a suspension part every 50K mile (2-3 years) with the roads around here. So, yeah, 5 years is good mileage.
