Default Just advanced my timing to 18

Got bored today so I went to kragens and got a timing light. Took a little less than 15mins to do everything, very easy! To my surprise, my stock setting was at 14 degrees. Is that normal?
Well after setting it to 18 degrees and taking the R out for a spin, I could definitely feel a nice pull compare to stock settings. I have the stock intake back on for the rainy season and w/ the 18degrees setting, the pull felt similar to when I had the AEM CAI.

What kind of hp/tq gains are expected with 18 degrees advance timing?

Edit: I found a dyno chart for a 1997 stock type-R from The Integra Dyno Center..
Are these numbers true for 2001 as well?

Yep, mine was 14 too. I think thats the low end of the factory spec. 18 is the high end.

I paid $79 and some change w/ tax. Has the **** adjustment on the gun. Pretty neat device. I plan to return it in a few days though.

If you advance your timing will it keep the setting until you re-adjust the timing to a different setting? My friend was telling me that with an OBDII, advancing your timing is useless because the ecu will just re-adjust it back to where it was after driving. Is this true?

i don't know all the details (i paid the dyno man $30 to do it), but you have to jump the ecu to fool it (should be in the helms). my peak gain was 1whp and 1ft/lbs; nothing huge, but each little bit makes a difference, eh?

I had mine advanced to 18 degrees and got 172whp and 125wtq. I also have a Comptech Icebox and filter but thats it.
