Raising Compression
Ok, I have a 98 GSR, and I have some questions about raising compression:
1. What is involved with raising compression. Obviously i know that you need higher compression pistons. But what other internals need to be strenghtned?
2. What kind of gains can you get from ITR pistions in a GSR? Is it worth it, or are other aftermarket pistons considerably better?
3. Am i gonna have to worry about clearance issues? What causes them? What are they?
4. How much would raising the compression after all the work cost?
5. How do the gains compare to getting bigger cams and tuning them?
Any other info on raised compression would be nice and appreciated.
Thanks.

if you raise compression you should definitely gain some power, like you said, need higher compression pistons, i believe you'll need to get a different set cam and adjust the head with different valves and retainers and **** like that to compensate for air flow..........get some nos, or turbo and you;ll be much happier and you won;t have to tear the motor apart...virtually no down time.......
you can remove the head and have it milleed a bit.. like .020"
while the head is off you can remove the valvetrain and upgrade it.. new springs and retainers, new cams, new adj camgears... then you are all set to get a new chipped ECU with a higher redline and make the most of your new cams and higher compression.

So if i want to raise the compression, I have to upgrade all other internals INCLUDING cams? I'm looking for an N/A application other than cams to do. Something less expensive. I thought higher compression would be good, but not if i have no strengthen all my internals anyway. Maybe just some head work like port and polish...
So, i have to upgrade all internals to raise compression?
