Default Timing or fueling problem?

Car is JDM EG9 Ferio with JDM B16a with Y21 hydro gearbox non LSD. Still has AC, PS.
Mods include:

Intake
4-2-1 headers with 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust with N1 muffler.
Enlarged T/B
Ported and polished head.
2 layer head gasket.
VAFC with stock settings.
Short shifter.
Im running about 10.7:1 compression and I run the equivalent of 91 octane for you guys in the states.

Here is my problem. I put the car in first and hit the gas and the car feels very unresponsive and slugs. It feels bogged down till the rpms rise up then it takes off. Then when I shift to second it does the same thing. sluggish then back to normal. I think its timing problem or do you think it could be due to fueling problems? Rich or lean?

As i said before, up in the high RPM's and in VTEC the car runs sweet. In it's current state i have run a 15.578 @ 90.12 MPH 1/4 mile. This is with a 2.496 second 60ft time due to slippery conditions and street tires. 1/8th mile is 10.154 @ 71.35 MPH car is running street trim with only spare tire and tools taken out.

BTW it is very hard to see my crank pully because of the AC lines. I tried to look at it from this position showed in the pic below but it is very hard to see, there are things in the way. How do I overcome this?

You should be able to see the lines just fine. The AC line is there blocking all the view? Give it a little angle when you shoot the gun, maybe you won't have to take the AC line out or anything.

I don't have AC/PS so, it's much easier for me. Good luck.

Do you also recommend giving the crank pully a wipe so I can actually see the lines?

get you some whiteout and tag the tdc mark. it'll help you locate the tdc better, and remember to jump the service connector whenever you check or adjusting timing.

OK then thanks. Now can people help me with my sluggishness in low rpms? I still managed to run a 15.5 but when i take off on the street, I really need to put my foot down just to get the car to get moving.

well hows your idle?
maybe your timings off and your running real rich or somethin.
Do you have a lightweight flywheel? with one of those, if your off the gas and out of gear, rpms will drop real quick.

About the timing marks,
I've had a hard time seeing mine in the past too. And yeah you want them to be clean and clear to see, otherwise once the crank is moving and your only seeing em during flashes of light.. it'll be real tough to tell.

Marking them so they are bolder can only help!

it could be you are running rich. Like your car is dumpint too much ruel at low rpms, but when the RPMS get up your car will love the fuel and scoot.

My car seemed like it hasd the same problems one time. I just changed my plugs and wires and did a lot of maintinance and it helped a lot.
I don't really think it would be a timing problem though. But i've been wrong before.

Yeah it could be the fact that the car is overfueling at low RPM's as my friends have told me there is a bit of black smoke when the car is under WOT when they are following me. It's hard to say without putting the car on a dyno and I don't really want to play around with my VAFC settings. My car idles fine though. It's smooth at around 750rpm. The timing belt has definately not skipped a tooth or else i dont think i will be able to run a 15.5 1/4 mile. Perhaps the base timing is a little bit too retarded.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Or just make sure the car is at operating temperature and you won't need to jump the connector.

Your 1/4 mile time and trap speed look ok so I'd say get it to a dyno so you can see what's really going on and tune it properly....opinions are great but they're not going to tune your car safely or effectively..
