GSR "cuts out" or "hiccups" when stomping gas, what the heck?
I bought my turbo '94 GSR last April, no problems really. One thing that I have noticed happening a few times, and again today is that it seems to cut out for a second or hiccup you may say. For instance, say I am in third driving about 30 mph at about 3500 rpm or so. I stomp the gas to pass some cars, and when it hits around 5k rpm or so, it kind of loses power or hiccups for a second. It immediately lean off the throttle a little bit when this happens. Not sure why this is happening, but I want to figure it out. Has also happened at about 120 mph on the highway under high throttle (a few occurrences). Don't know if this could be the governer, but never had a problem getting past 120+ in my old 94 GSR. Any suggestions. The car has a full turbo setup. I am wondering if the problem could lie in the fuel pump or something. Has an external inline fuel pump.
i have a bone stock gs-r and mine was doing the same thing.
i think it has to do with oil pressure and the vtec pressure switch.
check your oil level to start. check and clean your vtec sol. and pressure switch
i added some oil to the full mark and it solved all my problems, though it could be somehting else

How much boost are you running? Fuel management? Do you have a boost gauge?
If you are running the stock MAP sensor and boost exceeds its threshold you are going to hiccup exactly how you're describing. How do I know? I had the same issue. My boost would spike under high load (freeway boosting) beyond what the stock MAP sensor (around 10.84 psi) could read so it cut fuel. I didn't know why either until Shawn Church saw what was happening on the dyno.

i currently don't have an oil pressure gauge installed. i have it and will install it while car is garaged for winter (mid Nov to March). boost gauge is installed, and reads fine. i know the car has the missing link, re: map sensor. i have an apexi s-afc, which I have not played with at all. same settings as when I bought the car (also, if the neg or pos terminal comes off the battery, the s-afc will remember settings correct? because power has been disconnected many times.) vortec fmu. 7 psi of boost.
i think that it might be defective throttle position sensor, ti might be open at a sertain position, and it does not depend on speed, only on your gas pedal position........ it is a variable fesistor, they go bad with time.....
how would I know if it is this though. i hate to spend the money on all these different things not knowing exactly what it is
If you're running the missing link then please disregard the MAP sensor.
MAP sensor wouldn't be causing the problem if it isn't seeing any positive pressure.

troubleshoot it.......get the electrical diagram, multimeter, and go for it , connect so that you can measure the resistance , sweep throttle from idle pos. to WOT (with the engine off key on) and see if the resistance shanges gradually. if it doesn't then the sensor is bad.........get an acces to All Data, all the info is in there, or hanes manual.
like i mentioned, i thought it may have something to do w/ the fuel pump or injectors or something. although the vtec solenoid theory might be something, as the problem always seems to occur around 5k rpm, just about when vtec is kicking in
I had the same problem I believe. It culminated in the car finally taking forever to start. I used a multimeter to test the connections in the distributor, and found a bad connection between the ignitor and coil. I replaced the ignition coil and the ignitor, but it didn't seem to help. I said **** it and started driving again anyway, and slowly the problem went away and was gone a week later. Its been 4 months, and it hasn't had a problem. So i'm not really sure what to tell you, check all the connections inside the distributor.

do u have an external coil? my friends Blaster 2 coil went bad and it made his car sound like it's gargling/hiccup sound when u give it gas. swapped the coil and the car ran really good
