A valve adjustment will stop the tick.

Rent a tool and do it yourself with this link:

Yep, a good valve adjustment will help the tick
and if that still doesn't help, you can always try using a slightly heavier weight oil

Its a tick that tells people they need a valve adjustment. It will sound loud right around the valve cover if your valve lash is out of spec.

Its odd... but i definately hear most of the ticking comming out of the header... the valve cover, not so much... I used a screwdriver against the ear to hear where it was comming from....

Is there a whole different problem if the tick is comming from my header? Or is everyone just describing their tick as "comming from the valve cover" when its actually from the valve cover?

theres no diffrence the valves are just right under the valve cover. The exuast valves are the ones your hearing if it sounds like its right near the exhaust manifold.

On my 91 Chevy Fullsize 5.7L it really did wonders. I had a leaky hydrolic lifter, it would blead down at night if it was open when I shut off the motor. I used this stuff once, and it totally stopped, and still dosn't tick on startup a year later.

On the Prelude's first oil change I used half a bottle, and it hasn't used any oil since. Before it was using about a quart a change. This is the only time I've changed it though, but it was the same oil other then that. Also the previous owner didn't drive it much for a year, so that could be the reason it used oil more at first.

So bring it

PS First post, great site! sweet link to valve adjustment, I've been looking for a good write-up

OK *deep breath* I took a stethoscope to my motor to find an audible "ticking" noise that had been bugging me for a while. Not too bad.... but noticible cause I'm a perfectionist and a worry-wart at the same time.

RESULT= Noisy as hell injectors! They are easily the loudest thing on the whole motor right now. Hmmmm?

So whaddya say? I haven't searched yet but will now. I just wanted to post my experience thus far with "ticking".
