Confusion about valve adjustment.

Default Confusion about valve adjustment.

Ok first I would like to say that I searched and found absolutely nothing.

I have aftermarket cams and cam gears. The valvetrain is a little loud so I did a valve adjustment. Did it when the engine was cold. I set the cylinder to tdc as close as I can because my timing is not stock. I also did the adjustment in the correct order. I also adjusted them to the right specs. I even put the clean dipstick in the cylinder to get close to tdc as possible. My question is when the cylinder is at tdc the cam lobes for that cylinder should be facing horizontal and facing away from each other right? Like the exhaust lobes would face towards the front of the car and the intake lobes pointing towards the rear of the car. But seen on some sites of diagram on valve adjustment that tdc for the cylinder the lobes are pointing straight up. Which one is right? Is feeling behind the lobe more accurate then going from the front? Thanks. its still loud but better than before and it's pissin me off. LOL and I dont' wanna pay 100 dollars for the dealer to do it.

The exhaust cam lobes will be pointing up & towards the front of the car. The intake cam lobes will be pointing up & to the rear. You'll find that if they're not perfectly positioned (a few degrees off) it won't matter for valve lash adjustment.
