Default Smoking ITR !!!

Ok, here's the deal .. Lately I've noticed that my R will puff a lot of gray smoke under hard acceleration. There is no smoking while driving normally. I checked the compression and I have a steady 255psi on all 4 cylinders. My valve head is polished and ported (porting is significant), I have JUN3's and a JUN ECU which tops at 9500RPM. The car runs great but I really don't like the 2-stroke engine effect with the smoke .. What can I check ??

BTW: Seeing how the engine seems to be healthy it was suggested to me that I install a catch can because my compression and high revs may be sending oil back into the intake. I am installing the can this weekend to see if that helps.

HELP !!

Ok, but how would my a/f ratio cause the engine to smoke (burn oil) ??

long story short:

if your air and fuel mixture is not correct, you get smoke

a/f ratio makes sense, isn't oil usual black smoke?

It could be unburnt fuel.. do you have lots of carbon deposits on your back bumper/hatch?

still, checking the a/f ratio is a good idea

I thought black smoke meant rich condition (too much fuel) and gray smoke meant burned oil ..

See I was burning oil, Lots of oil until the motor blew....

Now I was watching the clouds coming from my exhaust as time went by. I noticed that oil when burned in small amounts leaves a blue smoke trail. But burning a **** load of oil or should I say not burning oil, lots of oil leaves a black cloud- looking like unburnt fuel.

but yeah check the A/F first... maybe the Joke man has a good idea

black smoke doesn't neccesary means your running rich. what can happen is, your motor is running lean that your ecu will start pouring fuel into the motor, which could cause running rich..

check your a/f ratio since your only getting dark smoke when your reving.

I dought it is a/f
you are geting blow by from some where could be that you do need a catch can maybe the crank case presure gets up there and pushes it through a valve seal or somthing I think that is a good start. You could always do a leak down test. Just my 2 cents. Just remember the R in Type R stands for Repairable I know all about it and I sure most people in this forum do.

Amen to that !! hehe !! I too don't think the a/f ratio could be that much off.. I checked the air intake and it was clean of oil but the pcv tube was very oily.. could the oil be coming from there ??

My ITR smokes a little bit when I take it to really high rpms like pretty much when vtec engages at 6700 rpm. But I also know for a fact that my car is running a little rich. I just don't have the time or money to get it re-dynoed right now. I just got it done about 2 weeks ago and it still isn't quite right.

Alright, you don't get your a/f tuned. A tuner will play witht the fuel tables, and aim for a correct Air Fuel Ratio.

just could be snoot. I get that crap all the time, everytime I get on the Yoko Yoko toll roads I hall it and blow out a small stead cloud of smoke around 7k to redline. I also got a fields vtec controller. But who knows, I thought it was normal thinking that when you just driving around all the snoot just sits there until it get blowen out... Just me imput.
