2000 si with jdm obd1 motor question, thanks
me and my freind recently put in a jdm obd1 b16(170hp) motor in his 00 si coupe.dont ask original motor and tranny were out of car so he got it cheap.anyway the motor he got ,the wires were all cut up ,so the si harness was still in car ,so we used it .so we are using original si harness and obd2 ecu. so far its been runnning fine for about a month now ,and vtec works good.the engine light is on though ,havent checkd codes yet.another freind suggested we convert over to obd1 by getting a ecu conversion harness.we have the obd1 ecu .his car runs fine .should we go ahead and convert anyway ? has anybody ever done this swap before ... thanks for reading
yes convert to obd1 cause no matter what obd2 ecu u use there is always going to be a cel for crank angle sensor.obd1 motors do not have that sensor, there is also a cel for not having enough fuel pressure.
thats about what i though ,but wanted to make sure before i get my friend to buy a harness. has anybody done this swap and not switched ecu's . ?? just curious,.. thanks for the input- per4mance
You can stay OBD2B or convert to OBD1. OBD1 will be easier because you will only need the OBD2B to OBD1 conversion harness since you already have an OBD1 ECU. Just make sure your state's emission laws allow you to backdate to older OBD.
If you want to stay OBD2B, you would need to change the water pump to an OBD2 pump and add the crank fluctuation sensor, you'll also need to add the secondary O2. With a little bit of wiring it can be done without much trouble.

the crank angel sensor is on the oil pump not the water pump, and you need to put a oil pump off of a 96 up b series and you also need to buy the sensor for it.but for how much you are going to spen a harness adapter is 85 bucks from jdmshit, and a p30 can be found for anywhere from 100 to 200 so for lets sat 200 bucks just convert it instead of spending 400 plus on the pump and sensor. If you need a ecu i can get u an obd 1 jdm p30 for 125 shipped to you, its the small ecu, so it makes it harder to upgrade.
