Default OBD1 motor into OBD2 car?

i got a 2000 civic si shell everythings ready to go just need to drop a motor in. i still need to get it registered, plates, insurance, and probably emissions.

first off is it legal to have obd1 -> obd2 or was it obd2 -> obd1? if i do pick up an obd1 motor would i be able to use either wire harness or obd2 only? if it is w/obd2 harness would the stock si p2t obd2 ECU work w/obd1 motor?

Legality depends on where you live.

Of coarse an older engine will work in that car, the distributor and ecu are what distinguish your obd status

so basically you can use an obd2 wire harness but everything on the motor would be obd1 as well as ecu ?

obd2a(96-98civic) obd2b(99-i think 2000)

ECU: Make sure u got the right obd1 ecu for the motor and your gonna need a obd2b to obd1 jumper harness to make it work with your harness, u can get the jumper harness from rywire.com

Distributor: Either u will need an obd2 distributor or i think rywire also makes a distributor adapter so u can use the obd1 dizzy with your harness.

Injectors: your gonna need either obd2 injectors or you'll have to modify your injector clips to work with the obd1 injectors.

u may also need to lengthen a few wires, add vtec and knock sensor wires depending on the the motor u decided to go with. For vtec u can also buy a sub harness from rywire.com

^^ your correct. ops si is obd2b
what i would do is get everything from obd2b b series, then theres no need to buy adapters and mess with any wireing.

Yes, OP's car is OBDIIb, so if he gets an older B16 froma an OBDI car, all he's got to do, is reuse his original distributor, everything should pretty much plug right in...no need for wiring

The intake manifold may have a slight difference, if so, it could be swapped also....the swap should be very simple.

for the injectors you can just take needle nose plyers and pull the little blue peice out of the plug and then it will work with the obd2 harness and obd1 injector. youll know what i mean when you look at it haha

If you have inspections in your state....OBD1 motor will need....OBD2 alternator, OBD2 distributor, OBD2 injectors, OBD2 harness, rear o2 sensor after cat, OBD2 computer (most likely P2T)....Now There is a difference between OBD1 and OBD2 trannys but I don't know what or if it will affect you. The reason you need a harness is because the OBD1 distributor has one plug, OBD2 has two plugs. Oh and knock sensor (you can just tap the alternator bracket and that will work to pass inspection)

I have researched this before and it's just easier to get an OBD2 motor. (I know OBD2 cost more) If you like the B16 but have trouble finding a OBD2 one consider the B16B. There is always a totaled Si popping up every couple months.
Glad to see another EM1 is being resotred!!!!!!!
