Default cold weather and e-brake light?

the past few days in the morning it has been around 40 degrees, and id notice whenver id go to slow down my e-brake light would come on. then i tried pressing in the brake just sitting still and it would still come on, but after i got out of school it was around 70 degrees, and id press the brake down and the light wouldnt come on......any suggestions or ideas?

A common cause of this is a lower than max brake fluid level, check the brake fluid reservoir and top up with new DOT 3 brake fluid, even if it is just a bit below max mark.

not to argue against the checkin of the brake fluid, but I too have notcied in colder weather the "parking brake" light stays on after the ebrake is released, ive had mine stay on for as long as a few hours if i am drivgin when it is cold out......once the weather warms up say, summer time or later in the day, you release ebrake and light goes off???, never a problem with it when its warm out......weird.....doesnt really bother me anymore though, then again summer is ending and the colder weather is comign back.....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by britishlude &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">A common cause of this is a lower than max brake fluid level, check the brake fluid reservoir and top up with new DOT 3 brake fluid, even if it is just a bit below max mark.</TD></TR></TABLE>

i will be doing this later this week, but the only thing is, is that its not gonna be cold for a while again since the damn weather here has been so weird lately, but hopefully this will help

the ebrake light is controlled byt a white switch in the console, when the brake is down it depresses the switch.. maybe its sticking

I have the same problem also, i think you just had to fill more brake fluid in that is all.

My 91 did it too, especially when braking hard or cornering at high speeds. I think what your issue is is that physics is coming into play on your fluids. Physics being cold = slower moving particles = your fluid is getting low when the temp is low. When it heats up it's simply expanding. I agree with checking your fluids, but it very well may be an issue with phsyics.

Hmm not to correect you... But dont you mean chemistry? fluids.. particles.. heat.. Maybe im wrong but i think right.. oh well. Correct me if im wrong and make me feel stupid.

Your both right : Temperature difference on fluid alters the Chemical molecular density, which changes it's Viscosity and this alters it's Physical properties by contracting or expanding.

Go to the top of the class

Yeah, what he said, haha. Didn't think of it as a chemistry. Failed the damn class anyways. But you get the gist

i think it might be a possibility with all cars.....my friends 2002 mazda protege does it also, but only wen he presses the brakes down fully
