Default Oil burning problem!!!

I have a 97 Prelude Sh. The car has about 138k miles on it and it either burns or leaks oil. I checked for leaks but didnt see anything and I think it burns oil. I have also noticed my muffler tips always black.

Same as my but my is a 93 lude vtec. I noctice my has leak but then if your tail pipe is black and its smokin dirty black then the piston rings might be bad.

How much would it cost for the piston rings to be replaced?

haha your talking about around $1000 or more becuz its like talking the engine apart as rebuilting it. Since it's a big displacement, it's gonna cost alot unless you buy the piston rings and do it yourself or check you compression test

Water is wet. White house is white. Rain falls down. H22 burns oil. No leaks? No big black clouds? Deal.

Black is not oil. Black is fuel. The H22's are ran rich from the factory. If you start to see BLUE smoke then i would worry.
yes they H22 does go thru a little oil... I would check your cam seals. They are known to go bad.

How often do you have to add a quart? Every 1500 miles? 1000? 500? I had to add a quart about every 1000 - 1250 miles in my 97 Base and while that seemed a bit excessive to me, seemed pretty typical of most H22s and of Honda DOHC VTEC engines in general.

Oh yeah, my tip was also constantly black - that is, as said earlier, is the car running rich.

Oh okay , I am actually going to do a oil change in the next 2-3 days and see how many quarts of oil I burn every 1500 miles.
