Default New here, couple questions =)

In the next week or so, I'll be the owner of an 03 EP3. The one question I have is: Does the reverse gear has a syncro? I use to own a VW Golf and since reverse doesn't have a syncro, you have to hit any gear before going into reverse.

Thanks in advance.

Last I check my S had a reverse syncro. How do I know you ask?

Well every syncor went out on me due to the problem they had from the factory. 1-6 and reverse.

I am not sure about engaging another gear just to go into reverse.

I don't believe reverse has a synchro, seeing as how you wouldn't want to let the car into gear while moving. I have to put my car into 1st before going into reverse most of the time, otherwise it won't let me in (and I'm not talking about the 5th to R lockout)

I generally put it into 1st before i go into reverse kinda out of habit but it tends to go in easier that way....

yea same here. but i believe this is covered in your owners manual. i think it does tell you to put it into a different gear before engaging into reverse

i wouldn't know about an owners manual....when i bought the car a year and a half ago it didn't have one and they gave me a "we owe" bulls*** slip. When the book came in i didn't have the time to drive 45 min. + in rush hour traffic to pick it up and they didn't have it 2 weeks later when i found time to get there..... at that point i just said F** It.

i think i remember reading somewhere that when u put the car in another gear before reverse it slows something in the tranny down (forgot the technical name). that way the reverse will "catch" easier. i know the reverse gears are not the same as going forward gears which is why the car whines when u go backward fast. so i guess reverse doesnt have synchros.

you don't want to go into reverse when you're still moving. the reverse gear will seriously grind if you try. even at like 1/2mph, you'll still grind it.
