whenever i try to go in reverse, sometimes it won't go in at all.. i gotta sit in the parking lot for like 3 minutes, shifting in a forward gear, pumpin the clutch, and everything and then finally it goes into reverse? what could the problem be??

it makes it easier if you go to a forward then to reverse. for me its first gear then to reverse.

This happens to a lot of people. If you're just sitting in your driveway trying to backup and it won't go into reverse. Put the clutch in, go into 2nd quick, then goto reverse. Just a little trick.

thanks for the tip guys. i do put it in a forward gear before i drop it in reverse.. but sometimes it just won't go in. it can even take up to like a whole minute until it finally goes in!! ugh, so irritating.. but yeah.

i'm having the same issue, damn thing will not go into reverse right now, and this morning it got freaking stuck in REVERSE ahhhhhhh anyone can help on this issue

Tip for reverse shifting when it won't go in:
Put it into reverse as far as it'll go. Then let out the clutch VERY slowly while pulling the shifter down into reverse (with a little pressure, but not enough to force it in), when the clutch gets to a certain point, it'll slide right into reverse and it won't be engaging the clutch quite yet, so you won't move or stall or anything. Works every time.

I'm talking about if it goes in but it doesn't go in all the way (and if you let otu the clutch it won't do anything or it will grind). If it won't go in at all, like it's blocked out (as if here's not a slit there to slide it into reverse) then it's a different problem. Sounds like a saftey catch (which is non-existant on a civic, see them on cavaliers all the time) or the clutch system isn't working right (maybe a leak) - if that's not it, I suppose it's possible the idler gear is shot. Reverse complete lock outs are weird, if you mean that it just won't slide in to the point where you can drive backwards, refer to my tip, just put it as far as it'll go and slowly release the clutch while pulling it towards reverse (lightly, but enough to shift).

I go first then reverse, sometimes it still doesnt go and i let the clutch out like an inch and rev and it will drop in like butter and dont grind...pretty weird but hey whatever works

Try it the way I told you about - then decide which one you like better.

Don't have to rev it or anything, just let the clutch out slowly and it'll go in, then ur like 1 cm from the grab point so you can just give it gas and pull it and go...with practice you can do it in half the time it takes to shfit from 4th to reverse.
