Default advice: b18b or b20

i'm in a real dilemma here. i hydrolocked my gsr engine recently and in need of a new engine and transportation.
i have 2 cracked pistons, 2 bent valves and i'm assuming the worst the block is done. my head is still good.

i'm in need of a car right now for transportation and i'm on a tight budget, but i'll sacrifice if i need too if i have to spend the extra $$.

i was looking for a b18c block locally i found 2 ranging from 700-900. it's pretty expensive.

i was deciding on a lsvtec since my head is good, but since reliability is a problem i'll stick to just look for
a b18b or b20 block or engine and sell my b18c head for extra $$. i found about 2 engines locally, both runs.

1. 94' b18b engine 82k miles $400
2. 97 b20b engine 83k miles $700

i know the specs are as: reference

b20b: 2L, 8.8 compression, 84mm pistons, 126hp @5400

b18b: 1.8L 9.6 compression, 81mm pistons, 142hp@6300, 127@4200, cams 10.03mm / 9.70mm

I know the disadvantage is the b20b has weak sleaves and low hp but more torque.

i also looking to get a full turbo kit from my friend for $1100 with less than 1000 miles. he's holding it for me, that is going in after i upgrade the pistons, rods, head bolts, etc. that won't be in 3months.

my question is can i make up the hp to the b18b by upgrading the cams, higher cr pistons like 9.6 or 9.5, intake manifold, and when i'm using the ls ecu...??

if that's the difference, i'm leaning towards the b20b instead of b18b.. budget is a concern but if the engine more of beneficial to me in the long end, i'll guess i'll have to get the b20b.

all this is going in my 94 gsr

why dont u just find a gsr short block? could probaly find 1 4 350 complete, that way u could save money. But if u want 2 go b20/vtec then a mild setup would b pretty cheap. Some b20z pistons, golden eagle kit, wit arp head and rod bolts wit soem tunning should kick ***. Alot faster than a stock gsr, u would diffenetly hit 14's all day if ur a good driver.

i can't find any locally and anywhere else. well i found one locall for the block for $800. i'm low on cash right now. i need a car asap.. so i'm forced to get a b18 or b20b. if i didn't need to drive to school and work, i would save up more and have more time to look around.

i understand not having a car and needin 2 get places. Sense ur on a budget get the ls block, and save up 4 the eagle kit and soem p30 pistons, u should still have ur vtec water and oil pump from ur gsr block. And don't forget those arp head and rods bolts, very important.
