Default D series turbo, better than b series??

I am looking at getting a new motor for my dx. It is old, 94, and has 175k miles. I have really been considering a b18c1 GSR but after a look at the price tag, i have tried to reconsider. I have heard some good stories about turbo d16z6 motors, but then I have also heard that they don't have as much power. I really am looking for something that i can build on and eventually put around 300whp to the ground. I just don't have that much upfront money.

What do you think would be the best bang for the buck? and how much bang and buck am i looking at?

Stick with your D series. When built they can make plenty of power.

How much money would a fairly new d16z6 cost me? And am I looking for something that could beat a stock turbod eclipse. Would that still be the best setup?

Also how much compression is the best that i can run, that would get me the most power while i am saving for the turbo but still not enough compression that would damage it?

You can buy a d series shortblock for as little as around a $100.

Build it up with new bearings, forged rods, and forged pistons with a compression ratio around 9:1. Since your engine is so old it may not hurt to get your hands on a newer head, something like a d16y8 SOHC VTEC head.

Get a nice turbo, nice manifold, intercooler, something like hondata, bigger injectors, piping, gauges, clutch...etc.

Get it tuned by a GOOD tuner, and you will have no problem beating modded DSM's....in fact most of them will be the least of your worries.

There is too much to tell you right here. Do a lot of research of old threads.

[edit]Also get an Ex trans, dx tranny ratios suck.[edit]

Alright man thanks for the help. I would want to get a new head anyways right because it is a non vtec head, that i have right now? What would I be able to beat and what kind of car would leave me in the dust? Also what kind of clutch do I want? I have heard of excedy and others but I am still not sure, I think I would want something that could have the potential to handle around 400hp just incase I ever get up to that much hp. Thanks again.

Edit* Also isn't a d16y8 a obdII head, so wouldn't I run into a lot of wireing problems on my OBDI car.

yea a d16y8 head is obd2. but a z6 head is cheaper if money is low. and u could still use the obd1(p-28) with either head

Would I need to get a new dizzy, and what is better about the d16y8 rather than the d16z6?

what do you mean by " you can build on and make 300whp"

because yes, you can do that with a d16,
but NOT with the stock block, it will HAVE to be rebuilt with stronger pistons/rods and other internals to handle that power.

the most power the stock dseries block can handle is around 200whp

SO,
for the money,
you can make more power than a b18c with a turbo dseries,
but if you want to go past that without having to put down the money/time for a built motor,
a b18 could possibly hit 300whp on a stock block I believe.

dont quote me tho as I know more about dsereis than I do bseries.

I turboed my y7 auto. I raced my friends "stock" gsr and he pulled a lil more than a car on me from 20-80. All i know is he traps at 80 mph in the 1\8 and he pulls 1-2 cars on all the other stock gsr's in the area. Running 8 pounds on a t25 turbo. I am happy.

swap in a ls motor and maybe a b16 tranny. It will be pretty quick until you turbo it and then you'll be very very happy.

There are quite a few D's out there that made more than 200whp on the stock block.
