Question about V Tec engaging
This is my first post and just wanted to say hey and if you could help me out a little bit.
I have a 90 crx with a L/S V-Tec swap in it. I was having an issue with V-Tec engaging in 1st, 2nd, and would cut in and out in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I did fix this issue with taping the knock sensor into the block which was tapped in the head.
Now tonight after i drive it alittle bit, I feel it cutting out alittle bit again.
Does anyone have an idea on whats going on or know someone that has had this prob before?
Also, I have an Autometer Temp gauge and for some reason it won't read a good reading. The reason i got it because my stock gauge went south on me. I have tried changing out the sending unit on the new one but it doesn't seem like that fixed it. Just curious if for some reason the gauge is reading the air temp or the water temp.
I have had it checked out to make sure it isn't overheating and it isn't so i really am lost on this one.
Thank you

Naw i will wait for the motor to warm up before even trying to hit v-tec. I thought if the knock sensor hears any tapping or pinging then it will retard the timing which will cut v-tec off? Is that correct or am i dreaming?
I also didn't take the thermostat out. I might check that but if it was the thermostat then wouldn't make it overheat? I have been by the shop more then once to make sure it isn't overheating and it isn't. So i don't know.
Any other ideas?

Run a 12v power sourse directly to the solenoid on the head, it should click. If it does then check your oil level and check the screen inside the solenoid for debris. If it doesnt click then be sure to check all your connectiosn or the solenoid could be funked.

The oil pressure is good. When the vtec is engaged, the oil pressure is around 65-70. I have tried swapping the vtec solanoid. Also, the oil level is good too.
I also tried to run a bigger cable from the head to the block thinking the head wasn't getting enough oil but that didn't solve it also.
Edit: I use a b-16a ecu to activate vtec....I have tried swapping the ecu also and that had the same result.
