Headlight question
My low beams went out the other day, but my high beams still work fine...I thought the bulbs must of went out, but when I asked a guy he said it wasnt the bulbs, and it wasnt the fuse box. He said there was something wrong with a switch, and in order to fix it a professional would need to look at it and it would be expensive.
can anyone tell me more about this, what the problem might be, how much it would cost...etc?
thanks in advance

Did the guy install a replacement and find no dims were available?
If not I would check further to see if you have power to the socket when lights are on dim. If yes, then bulb is the fault.
good luck

did you try to change the bulb??? if not the guy must of thought he could scam ya a few $'s since you dont know how to change a light bulb... but if you did, try looking at the fuse boxes yourself to double check that guys not playing you...
Yeah try a new bulb and check to see if the fuses are bad if you are sure he is not trying to scam you or you have done it then report back here and we can tell you more stuff to try. It could also be you fried the wiring. Did you have the 80Watt bulbs in there? If so you likely fried the wiring. Did the harness look melted any where it plugs into the bulb?
yes when my low beams are on i still get the dims, small lights bellow the actual lights...the low beams themselves just dont come on...but my high beams work fine...what would you do in my situation? thanks again for all your help
ps. the light bulbs currently in there were the ones i recieved when i purchased the care, so i dont know if that means they could of fried the wiring as hometheaterman said
but i am really not good with cars at all, i feel helpless

I had the exact same problem on my 97. It was my grounds. Look at your grounds by your washer fluid bottle and behind the bumper. Make sure they are tight and not corroded
What year is this car? What lights are under the light? I doubt you have 80W bulbs then but you may. The usually are the Super White or Blue bulbs and usually people add them. So they low beams light up and are just dim or they don't light up? I would also check the grounds like he said I'm guessing it is something in the wiring but It could be something else I suppose. Your best bet may be to find a good local shop and take it to them.

you could also rent one of those tester tools from autozone or something and just check all your fuse boxes to pinpoint if you even have voltage flowing thru the wires or not,
only places i can think of that a headlight can mess up is the actual switch itself (wiring gets loose sometimes, had it happen to a maxima i use to own)...
wires burnt, corroded, like stated above...
bad grounds/loose ground wires...
bad fuse/blown fuse...
relay?? not sure if the headlight has a relay...
