Default Problems with Probe Rods??

I had a customer give me a set of Probe GSR rods as part of a build. When installing the bearings they didn't fit right, pretty much offset.

When putting together, I got this offset

Are all Probes like this?

talk to jeff from IB, I think he deals alot with Probe, or maybe they gave the guy the wrong rod's? I have seen probe rod's in person with the bearings, and they fit fine... but maybe it's a mistake. But Jeff from IB deal's with them alot I believe, but im not too sure.

i had the same problem with the probe rods. you either have to get them notched to fit the gsr bearings.. or use LS bearings.

How can those rods be so far out of spec and why would anyone trust that the rest of the rod is any better...

Wow. I've never seen anything like that. It really pays to spend the extra dollar on good parts.

So is it the Probe Rods or ACL Bearings?

I know some people have talked about fitment issues with some of the ACL bearings, but B20Monster also said he has the same problem with the rods.

I know Earl is a strong supporter of the ACL bearings, and i'll soon be using them .. so i'm interested in what he, and other people have to say.

In my case it was the rods for sure. I was using OEM bearings.

Well then, that for the most part throws out the ACL Bearing "variable"

Is that offset due to using a gsr rod bearing in an ls bearing application? I know the two bearings are different widths just never compared them side by side. If not, could someone throw up a pic showing the difference between the two?

just popped into my head... it might of had something to do with the fact of the bearing being ls/gsr/b16... once again... i completely forgot... im just trying to remember what the problem ended up being

It looks to me like you have a single cam VTEC bearing in there you may want to check.
I had a couple of ACL boxes with the wrong bearings in them so you may want to double check.
They look simular but the offset is a little difrent.
I even had single cam VTEC and GSR bearings in the same ACL box.

Because of the rod length, I know they were a Probe GSR rod. GSR rod bearings are .079" more narrow than the LS bearing. Maybe that would have helped the situation some to use LS bearings but I don't think they would be wide enough to make the bearings align properly. Crazy rod...

i had a set of probe rods like that. they where for a gsr. i did use ls berings and it ran fine, and i raced the hell out of it.

probe originaly made ls rods, so i think they just shortened them and called them gsr rods. i guess a larger bering could be good for heat distrabution from the rod.

that's funny earl, i sent you an iIM a long time ago about trying to use ls berings in a grs cause i had the wrong berings, but then when i got my rods the ended up working out straingly enough.
