$4000. to spend on a swap, what can i get
whats up all, sold my old setup, have around $4k to spend on a swap. i have a clutch and flywheel already and a kenji ecu. looking to make 200whp in my 91 crx si, i have the hasport hydro tranny mounts (so must be a hydro trany) shift linkage, axles and all the parts for the swap.
looking for head, block and tranny, what can i do here, and what are my best ways to go. was thinking of just buying a itr swap and drop in and good to go. but would like to also see your responds on this, if you guys can brake it down for me, that would be great.
thanks alot all

id piece together a motor. u will come out ahead if ur patient enough to find good prices on stuff. not only that but u can buy pistons/rods and put them in the GSR shortblock u have IF u were to piece a motor together.
$500 shortblock
$600 complete head
$600 tranny
i know theres lots of little things but it can be done relatively cheaply and have a fully built motor on top of the basic pieces needed. o yeah swap to a OBD1 ECU also, much better fuel/timing MAPs to work with.

Hmmmm, Go with something like what Im building for my EF.
LSVTEC
99 SI Pistons
Smallish Cams
ITR Intake Mani\TB
Hondata
Should make 200whp or so.

When I blew my motor in my itr I thought about just gettting a JDM motor. However, why pay that much for a stock motor that may/may not be in good shape anyway. I will have about 4000 in my ls/vtec setup with forged pistons, rods, sk2 valvetrain, sk2 cams, everything brand spankin new. I think its well worth it if you have the time. It's also a little eaiser when you already have all the type-r stuff you need
for 4000 there is no excuse to buy a used motor. Some ******* didn't baby it as much as he told his friends, or some mom is still on factory oil
A honed block, and new pistons, as well as new springs/retainers wont run you more than 1500 after taxes, and for the like, you have 2500 to put together your shortblock (stock crank and rods of course, unless you wanted to do an oem stroker kit w/ custom pistons or rods) still keeps you at around 3-3500 for parts. Unless you dont do your own work, then scratch what i just said!
Btw-i'm shooting for the same goal, i just have about 1500-2000 and a motor
So we are definitly in the same boat. I was seriously considering a stock bore stroke on a b16, and think i might be happy with an ls crank and techs pistons. Though i just never know. four thousand will get you plenty, if you're patient; I've gained patience because the times i've had money are the good ones. If i had money the whole time i was getting ready i would have blown it all already

4k not enough but good choice!

I've been seeing sleeved GSR blocks going for pretty good prices. You'd just need the head/tranny/rods/pistons. If you shop around, for $4k you can find yourself a real nice setup.

If you have all the equipment and space to build a motor, do it yourself. You can have a KICK *** setup for 4 g's. If you buy a stock block swap, you will still be a ways from 200 WHP.
If you don't have all the above mentioned, then ya, a complete swap would be the better way to go just because its: faster and everything in the engine was designed to work together.

thank you all for your quick responds (as of today, heres where i stand)
here are the parts i have so far: and $3k to spend
exedy clutch
fidenza flywheel
p28 ecu by kenji
lowcash wiring to go obd-0 to obd-1
ctr pistons on itr rods w/arp rod bolts (waiting for them in the mail)
gsr block (from oil pan to head gasket)
aem fuel rail w/fpr
greddy sp-2 catback exhaust
str 70mm throttle body
skunk2 vavle springs and ti retainers (need to pick them up)
rc 310cc injectors
parts i am shooting for::
anr header or something nice to clear a crx w/h&r springs
b16 head
aebs intake manifold or something close to that
hi comp vavles
lsd tranny (hydro)
thanks alot superdave for your responds, it did come to mind about a ls/b20-vtec
but from what i seen and heard, they spin rod bearings alot (but i might be wrong, but thats from what i seen from my freinds).
keep them coming

i think that STR TB is goin to kill u. too big for a 1.8L. if u want the bling factor go with it. id only buy something that big for 2L and above setups.
if you did not have all the dohc mount ****, etc, I would recommend building a big-bore sohc vtec w/ nitrous, put down maybe 150+ all motor with 125ft/lb then spray 125 on top of that...oh well.
Well, since ya gotta stick with dohc, copy allmotorpacman's setup ; )

thats not really a bad idea, but knowing i already spent money on after market axles and mounts and all that other stuff, b'series is my only way now.
other then that, i was thinking of a k20, but i know those are alot of money, and not sure if they are worth it.
