? about spring compressor and installin coilovers
do i need to use a spring compressor to take off the stock springs? i knoe i dont need it to install coilovers, but how hard is it to take them off w/out a compressor
I'm not responsible for what happens.
Take a spring place it level on the ground agaist something make sure it's not pointing anywhere that it's not supposed to. Take a long wrench and unscrew it with caution. It will pop when you are done, some stuff might fly.
And to intall coilovers you don't need to compress them

Just go and rent a spring compresor at auto store, it's safer and it's the right way.( you can do it the ^ way ....but it's to dangerous )
I'll definitely use the spring compressor no matter what. Once you've remove that middle bolt without compressing it , you better hope Satan aint watching. Compress it, then remove the bolt, safest and most effective way and you'll thank that spring compressor for savign your life

YES you need Spring Compressors to take OFF the STOCK springs from the struts.
You do not need them to put the coilovers on the stock struts, since coilovers are adjustable.
Go to Pepboys or Autozone or even Sears and get yourself a set of spring compressors or even rent them if you want. They are like 30 bucks at autozone and like 40 bucks at sears.
go luck, also search.

I heard that they do but I have never asked or tried, I mean for 30 bucks you might as well just buy em.

I must have done 15 or so spring / coilover installs wrong then... go figure.
I myself have never used a spring compressor to remove stock civic/teg springs, there is just not enough tension on the spring to warrant needing to do so.
A spring compressor is needed when you are re-installing stock springs though.

i agree.. ive lowered prolly 10 cars at home.. (i do most of my work at my shop) but i normally take one of those big shop rugs, and lay it under it, and zip that top 14MM nut off, and it shocks apart under the blanket.. and ur done.
