I installed my new rebuilt synchro tech trannismission and there is a hole meant for the VSS. Problem is I can't remove my unit from my old tranny.
Does anyone know the part number. I know it should just come out after its unbolted, but the bastard isn't coming out. It's the hollow cylinder shaped metal piece the cable mates with.
thank you,
-5upr3me As you can see it got chipped after i put a flat head underneath haha.
Being in gear or not has nothing to do with removing the VSS. The cable VSS's being stuck is a very common problem. You'll probably need to split the case to pry it out if you want to get it out intact.
You won't be able to order it, it has been discontinued.

Sure it does. I know from experience. It's not just being in gear, it's just the spot that the vss is at in relation to being in gear that somehow makes it stick.
The VSS reads off the plastic gear on the diff. Being in gear or not does absolutely nothing to the diff or the VSS. The VSS holder cannot spin (if you can spin it then it will be easy to remove) so rotating the mainshaft in gear will only spin the VSS itself which does absolutely nothing to free the VSS holder. They stick because its a tight interference fit on 26+ year old transmissions.
