Took my 1997 civic ex (150,xxx miles) AT, today to get smogged and it failed, Gross polluter, spoke to the guy testing it and he said I had the wrong air filter??? Also said (vacuum lines to sensor disconnected) I didn't see anything disconnected. Any help would be great guys thanks.
Re: Failed smog today In CA, Gross Polluter, Help!!!
You have a two-stage VTEC head, that is not stock. Note the non-stock wires running from the VTEC solenoid to somewhere under the battery.
The NO is the only one at GP level but HC and CO are also well over the max. Failing all 3 pollutants at the same time but running OK usually means the cat is dead.
Re: Failed smog today In CA, Gross Polluter, Help!!!
So from the looks of it, I have an exhaust leak and need a new cat? What would be the disconnected sensor stated on the list? Also thanks for your guys advice
Re: Failed smog today In CA, Gross Polluter, Help!!!
The smog guys response was "see your mechanic". I figured it was smithing I could find after he was no help, I'm taking it to a mechanic today to check it out
Re: Failed smog today In CA, Gross Polluter, Help!!!
@tony it's a ex model, and I believe the "disconnected" is referring to the vacuum line. Also the car is now at my mechanic so I cannot post pictures of it till I get it back
Re: Failed smog today In CA, Gross Polluter, Help!!!
UPDATE**** so I took it to my mechanic and and his diagnostic was that the cat was the original one so he had a muffler shop install a new one, he also tucked those loose wires away. Smogged it again and passed with flying colors. Thanks for everyone's input and opinions.
