Honda/Acura Shift Pin "B!tch Pin" Removal; Alternative Method
Like most, I had some trouble removing the shift pin (bitch pin). I'm not a fan of the BFH method and I don't own an air hammer and Matco 6565 bit.
I used a C-clamp on my D-series transmission, but found it sloppy and cumbersome. It's also difficult to "balance" the setup as the screw is rotated.
I would just like to offer an alternative to the above solutions.
It's simply a ball joint separator instead of a clamp. I found I can't get a C-clamp to work with a B-series transmission, but the ball joint separator worked very well.
Here's the setup. (NOTE: Exhaust manifold/header is removed)
-Harbor Freight 3/4" ball joint separator (99849) ~$20
-Two allen bits (from a bit kit).
-Socket and wrench.
-19mm wrench (a larger mm wrench would have worked better).
The wrench has to be used because the prongs of the BJS are too wide to rest level on the shift lever. A larger wrench 22mm or 24mm would have worked much better. 19mm was the largest I had.
Use the smaller allen bit, tip should fit inside the pin, to start the pressing process.
I had to do this because the pin wouldn't have past by the prong on the BJS. I could have started the entire process like this or used a larger wrench as posted earlier.
The second allen bit, about the size of the shift pin, needs to be used to press the pin through entirely.
The overall benefit is the stability of the setup. The pressing result isn't part of the pressing force like with a C-clamp. So the parts don't want to turn as the screw is turned. Hopefully some will find this useful.
