500whp on pump for that turbocharger you have is not reasonable, although the power level itself can be done on pump gas. In 99% of those that did make the 500whp mark, it was peaky, with less torque in the upper band in most cases.

So, is it possible? Yes.. With that turbo you have now? No.. unless the dyno reads high and tuner is concerned about promotion only... Is it reasonable to expect it? No...

Iv seen two cars with 5858 and gsc turbo cams make 500whp on 16-17psi. Im leaning towards skunk2 tuner 2 for myself with a 5858 from what iv read have the same vtec lobe as the pro1 but a milder low cam for better drivability

You'd be backwards.. It's not NA. The GSC is fine for drivability. Gotta stop being afraid of a little "lope".. Puts hair on your chest

You'd just tune out the overlap of the Tuner 2 anyway, so it would behave even less than a Pro1

Made 517whp on 01 ITR cams with a 6262 on pump gas (dyno jet, 130mph trap speed), loved the drivability and idle characteristics.

Thanks for all the advise! Another question my phones not letting me download the nhra rules and regs. Im sure im gonna be in some sort of safety requirement category with my power goals does anyone have a link to where I can view the rules and regs without downloading the file? Also downpipe is a question. 4 inch to 3 inch exhaust or 3 inch all the way?

Im leaning toward the gsc t1 camshafts and changing to a silver surfer turbo. Seems to have been a good combo on Californiadad's write-up and the day drive video seems pretty close to what I had in mind.

Also Ignition though I hadn't really put much thought to.

When does oem start giving up? Is MSD going to be necessary?

Its not about a specific power level. Its really in the use of the system that determines how long it holds up. There's nothing wrong with enhancing the OEM to still work for 300 to 600 horsepower. Making sure that the OEM components are in good order to start off with.

For example, using the distributor, ignitor card, and either using an external Crane or MSD coil in conjunction with a digital ignition box (Mallory Hyfire and even AEM CDI comes to mind first). Or simply replacing the internal coil with a more robust one from ACCEL. There are ways to keep the stock distributor and only change what is needed without going to coil on plug or other more extreme measures to ensure good spark.

Stock GS-R cams can make the 400-500whp. The difference in use of specific camshafts in conjunction with the turbo size determines HOW that power is delivered.

Even GS-R Camshafts should have some type of upgraded valvetrain for these levels. All the usual names come to mind, Supertech, Skunk2, portflow, etc.

I agree. Start simple and build upon that, lots of folks can tell you what they would like you to do, but it's nice to know what your doing works. Start with a stock camshaft and make improvements and you will be able to see how each component has actually improved or hindered your goals.

I made 427whp 270tq on 93 octane at 14lb with b16 cams. My tuner asked if i want to go further but i wanted to stay focus on my goal which was 450whp on e85 at 15-16lb. It made 471whp 294tq on e85 at 14lb and 503whp 327tq on e85 at 19-20lb because my brother and tuner wanted to see 500whp. lol
