IMHO spot welding the back of the studs is more trouble than benefit... way overkill and I'm in to overkill.

Umm here's a stock lug vs a Kyukugen or whatever vs a Skunk2. I think the Skunk is as light or lighter than the stock one for what it's worth. With the Skunk studs and these I'll be bling blingin

I use Axas lugnuts. They are incredibly light. Use antiseize on the threads.

john: The only problem I can see with tack welding the studs, is that it might throw the hub out of balance..

and then, of course, if you break a stud off at the track...what are you going to do then? Do you think some good ole locktite would work?

while on this topic, I thought I would post an experience I had with kyukugen lugs yesterday. I sold my b16 crx yesterday to some kid, and he did not want my aftermarket wheels..which came with kyukugen lugs. So we started to take the lugs off to swap out the wheels for the stockies I had in the garage. Well, we got off 7 lugs, then the 7-sided socket that comes with the lugs COMPLETELY stripped out. It took us 2 hours to get all the lugs off after taht happened. Just a warning to anyone that may have these lugs on you car....that socket they came with is a pos. I threw mine away and will never again use 7-sided lugs.

~ scott, who is glad he now has a stock gsr that he can keep in a lower class at scca events instead of racing against almost pure race cars with his just sold crx with a bunch of mods

Yup that's why I'm getting rid of the Kyukugens. I have yet to strip the key/socket after what seems like hundreds of wheel changes but it's getting there.

OMG, that's ALL the backing a lug has? THAT's what's holding my wheels on when I tear around? Yikes!

True, true.

I must applaud (sp?) the use of the 'search function', though.

So while we're on the topic, which ARP studs are the proper ones to use?

None to my knowledge. The ARP knurl is 1/2" diameter and requires drilling of the Honda hub. If you forced it in, that's bad mu-ju.
Within the last few weeks, ARP manufactured a batch of 3000 studs for Honda applications with a .485 knurl diameter and 2 different lengths. So get them now while you can.

Yup. I'd much rather an old topic like this revived than someone posting a new topic "Which wheel studs for my Civic/Integra?" and then getting locked by RJ...

Thanks for the tip. I called ARP & got this info.

Part # 100-7711, set of four, .485 knurl (oem size), extended length 2.850" (72.4mm), suggested retail $19.76.

Part # 100-7709, set of four, .485 knurl (oem size), oem length 1.850" (46.9mm), suggested retail - didn't ask.

added in edit: I hate mail order but called Summit anyway. They don't have them but can order them. I got six sets.

If the diameter is .485 and the stock as stated earlier is .480 will I still have to have the hubs drilled out? I'm looking for an OEM fit w/ the entended length. How would I contact ARP for those lugs? $20 for a set of 4 isn't bad at all IMO, or am I wrong?

There are other options out there for much less money. I just installed longer studs on my CRX. I went with the Dorman part#610-323. These have the same knurl dimensions as the stock Civic studs, they are the same 12*1.5mm thread pattern, and are about 1" longer than stock. The best part is the price, I got all 16 for $22.

Seems kinda spendy for a set of four. The long 57mm H&R studs were just over $2 when I bought 16 last year.

Don't know if you guys remember, but some of us can't seem to get the 'TL' studs anymore.

Tyson,
I had trouble sourcing the correct Acura studs even though I went to two different dealers & a another friend who works for a third dealer. BTW, they were all helpful & pulled parts for me. In the past, I was able to get the longer stud but can't seem to now.

I am running some of the Dorman studs (89 Prelude rear) right now for the rear & in actualuality (sp) have plenty of thread engagement. The studs I got before (from Acura) had another 5mm.

JohnG,
I am sure I am paying a bit for the name. I also think that I will be getting a quality product from the other ARP parts I have seen. They aren't cheap but they are less than the Comptech & Skunk2 studs.

I don't even really need them right now but I like to have parts on hand. These studs are actually longer than I would prefer. Not such a big deal anymore since I have a cordless impact gun. BTW, Milwaukee makes the best @ this point in time IMO. 18v & 240 ft/lbs.

added in edit: snoozin ef8, re-read my post above yours. it tells you all you need to know.

Where can you get these Dorman studs at? Now, 16 for a set of 22 is damn cheap. I need them because the new wheels I put on my crx are 16x7.5 and there isn't much thread for the wheel lug to go through. Besides, longer studs would be good for wider roadrace wheels later. An inch is good enough for me. I'm basically looking for something that fits OEM and doens't need to be drilled out.
