Default what items should i bring to the track

what items should i bring to the track. I am doing my first track day and need to know what to bring. I have tools, jacks and stands, small air tank and guage.

i thought about a extra set of tires (2) in case of a flat.

somebody told me to grab a extra set of pads and some oil.

is there anything left that i might need?

Brake fluid, bleeder bottle, 10mm flare wrench to bleed the brakes.

Also bring plenty of water, snacks, layered clothing, something to sit on, etc.

and...
• sunscreen
• a jack
• beer
• fat-girl **** (to slip into your buddy's luggage)
• tire pressure gauge
• spare pads and rotors (for the drive home)
• credit cards
• AAA

The night before you leave, put all your clothes in one pile. And put all your money in another. Then right before you go, take half as many clothes and twice as much money

talk to your insurance company before you leave to see if they cover non-timed track driving incidents...

*don't just bleed the brakes, completely flush them.
*inspect ball joints
*rotors for cracks
*PS fluid if you have it. It will get a work out
*Clutch fluid - just flush and refill if you haven't for a long time
*make sure your tail lights work
*make sure your seat belts are in good shape
*Bring some painters tape for your headlights and stuff so if a rock hits them, glass is less likely to end up on the track.
*read your pre hpde stuff with whatever club you are running with

On my first HPDE I blue ballzed a set of rotors and Carbotech AX6 pads front and rear on a 2660lb K20 Civic, GSRs front and rear, hankook Z212s (2 people in car obviously). I was in a lot of traffic but rookies always use the brakes too much.

Extra Pads and rotors to fall back on are a pluss

Download the event organizer's tech sheet. Take it out to your car and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Here's NASA's

Things that often cause first-timers to fail tech:
• missing/inadequate battery hold down
• missing/inadequate radiator overflow
• cracked windscreen
• bad wheel bearings

my winshield has a crack thanks to a reckless salt truck. is there a way around this or am i stuck replacing this before i can race. The crack goes from top to bottom now and is slightly in my line of sight. it is visable from the outside but is hardly noticable from inside.

Bring an open mind, your instructors will be telling you to do things that your brain says "NO WAY" to.

Water to stay hydrated, if you get thirsty at the track you are already dehydrated.

The other ideas are good but without a clear and open mind you will have a bad weekend.

SUNGLASSES and a HAT
Extra Cash
Snacks
Car numbers or Blue Painters Tape (to make car numbers)
bring the tools you need to do a brake change
Don't forget your tire iron (or socket)

I always bring gatoraide, something sweet and something salty.

I once was running in a HPDE in the desert, and I only drank water. I drank a
bunch, but by the end of the day, I was severly dehydrated and void of any salts, sugars and electrolytes. I got so sick I was puking and passing out.

The only thing that saved my *** was gatoraide and a power bar.

Remember this... if it's noon, and you haven't pissed all day, you aren't drinking enough liquids.

oh yeah.. leave your ego at home, you will get passed by a slower car

Something that I like to take with me is one of those magnetic pads...

They're around $20. I'll just lay it on the valve cover and toss nuts and bolts at it. Those can get lost on the ground pretty easily and I seem to drop every bolt I lay on the windshield down into that rear engine mount.

Also, you might want to take some chapstick or vaseline, depending on the weather. It was cold and windy this past weekend and my lips are all cracked. I could hardly eat lunch.

Wow. people bring alot of stuff to the track.

My past few events, which have been my first, ive taken my tool bag witch generally has everything I need to do about anything on my car (8,10,12,14, 17mm sockets/wreches, ratchet, screwdrivers, tape, wire cutters, zip ties, rag or two) I bring a jack, lug wrench (if you have a key for the lugs, make sure you have that. buddy of mine blew a tire, it was a LONG day because he forgot the key to the lugnuts) chairs, camera, sun screen, tire pressure gauge...

guess I bring alot of **** also. Just doesnt seem like alot when you go to take it...

I always pre-inspect my car the day before the event. Bleed the brakes, change the oil, check my joints, clean out the car, make sure anything thats going to be in the car that might slide around (i.e. ECU) is secure, make sure nuts are tight...etc. etc.

Another thing.

Don't leave all your crap in your car overnight at the hotel. You risk getting it stolen.

Bring an extra pair of sunglasses just in case some redneck steals your good glasses at Jack in the Box.

Dave...what's up with salty and sweet... you're makin' me nervous!

There are some great lists here. Every time I go to the track I seem to bring more stuff with me. I think my first track day I brought a few hand tools, my helmet, some food/drinks, a quart of oil and some brake fluid. My list is much longer now.

I tend to bring a little more than most people...here's my list

Spare:

Brake Pads
Rotors
Tires
Metal Valve caps (I've melted the plastic ones)
Control Arms w/ new bushings installed
Shifter linkage pieces
Plugs
Wires
Cap & Rotor
Oil
Gear oil
Gear box
Brake Fluid
Bleeder bottle
Complete tool box, including full set of wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, special tools, tire plug kit (someone always gets a flat on their tow rig running over a bolt in the pits), air tools, etc.... everything I might possibly need.
Compressor
Generator
Small Mig welder
fuel
Steering knuckles with new bearings and hubs installed
New rear wheel bearings
A box of wire, switches, connectors, and relays
Spare belts
Spare hoses
Water
Brake hoses
Hose Clamps
Zip Ties
Duct Tape
Lug nuts
Fuel Pump
Block of wood or tire chock so you don't have to use the brakes in you paddock
EZ-UP
Tie Downs
Chairs
Cooler with lunch and drinks
Towel
Change of clothes
HELMET (I've left it at home before)

Also, bring a couple of empty jugs if you end up with used oil/brake
fluid/coolant...take it home and get rid of it properly.

Trash bag....for trash

Rags, Handcleaner, and a 6 pack to share with the boys after you're done for the day.

I had about 6 days last year where I towed out to the track, and was coming home within an hour becuase of stupid failures, so now I bring enough with me to fix anything but a blowed up motor. I usually go out for a whole weekend, and I hate when a busted car ends my weekend.

For a 1 day track day, If your car is fairly well maintained and reliable, I would bring a spare set of pads and rotors, jack, lug wrench and torque wrench, air tank, pressure gauge, and a quart each of brake fluid, motor oil, trans oil, and a couple gallons of water...just in case. Also, a few zip ties and a roll of duct tape will fix most anything that broke and not made of metal, so bring those too.
