I've upgraded to a straight cut gear set. I've had continual heat problems overall, so I'm sure this upgrade will just add to the mess. May have to look into a similar setup like this soon.

Porsche racers have done this for years, I am surprised it has taken this long for many others to catch on. Nice looking setup. I am planning something similar as well for my turbo car. Have to be careful about where you return the oil spray as you can cause hydraulic pitting in the gear faces if your not careful. I am looking at adding a fitting in the end of my transmission to force feed oil into the mainshaft and countershaft.

You could set the pump up on a thermostatic switch. That is probably better than having to think about it half way into the race. Or you could just make your warm up lap and then switch it on. That is what we do on our GTU/GT2 car that has a pump.

That line he is using (aeroquip) is plenty for that application and is less abrasive. Braided lines cut through other stuff if it rubs on it. plus it keeps the cost down.
Cool thanx...

Is there any concern about PSI drop in oil Pressure with a trans cooler or is that just a an issue for a engine oil cooler?

No oil pump in manual, more slosh and throw. Added pump to go to the cooler. As noted, volume is adjusted to keep tranny full.

Question (may have already been answered in one of the 100 other post):

If you place the cooler in a horizontal position (below the oil fill port) and then rig a simple inlet/out to the trans (no pump), would thermo convection be enough to circulate the fluid ?

Probably not. The fluid is too thick.

I liked the install and I'm waiting for Walt to give us a link to RB-Racing ?
I really like the compactness of the oil pump. I have done a similar install on my Late k-20 DC2 which worked extremely well, but I used a Tilton pump which as I recall was quite big, and quite expensive.
The RB-Racing item Walt used looks a lot more compact for what I have planned next,.
Where can I buy it?

Off topic: Does MFactory not make suspension parts anymore? I have a spherical rear camber kit from 3 years ago. Last I checked they were working on a different style for the front.

i was looking at a b-series casing this weekend .. the reverse switch hole looks to be the same size as the drain plug and at the opposite side of the tranny at about the same level as the fill hole .. a good option for the return.
what would be nice though, is to drill/weld a fitting on the top of the tranny right over the oil distribution rail which would distribute the cooled oil over the gears/synchros.. but i guess if the pump is doing 2qrt/min they're already bathing in cool oil.

where was your temp sender installed?

with your pump setup, does the oil in the return line flow out like an open ended garden hose or like a pressure washer?

same question, for any of you guys with tranny coolers.

Also, I am planning to use an on/off switch same as Anrdrie to keep it simple. So no oil moving in the lines until I flick the switch. I just have to know when, and monitor what's going on there.

Thanks for that pix of the case Nscirocco. Like your idea on the return line.

Anyone using a trans cooler like the MFactory type without a pump? Would it make a difference?

Science and magic!

Bumped as I was looking into this for both my LeMons car and CRX. Walt, appreciate the time you spent on putting this setup together and sharing your thoughts. Still racing the Prelude these 4 years later?
