Default reprogrammed ECU's

So I'm finally removing my 92 hp monster engine to install a D16Z6 in my 88 hatch. I've bought the engine and everything except the ECU. I've seen alot of chipped ECU's out there supposedly with JUN or Mugen programs. Are these ECU's worth the money? My car is used for road race and Solo 1, but I drive it to the track (yes, I'm one of the only guys with no tow vehicle). It's barely street driven anymore. I haven't decided on a short ram or longer CAI yet, I have a 2.25 inche exhaust with no cat, no resonator and a Supertrapp. I'm doing the full OBD1 conversion and was planning on picking up a P28 ECU tomorrow at the scrap yard. Should I
a) drive the car with the stock ECU, these chips/programs are all hype
b) chip my P28 with one of these programs we see everywhere
c) have my P28 custom modified
d) use the stock P28 for lapping and stuff, modify a P06 (which I can get for free, unmodified) as a road race only computer (assuming there's more engine wear with such a program/higher rpm cutoff, etc.)
As usual, my budget is tight. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Default Re: reprogrammed ECU's (Civic44)

go with the chipped p28

Contact adrian in toronto his website is http://www.hyperducktuning.com

There no point running a a p06(modified or not) on a z6 unless you somehow make the vtec work.

I run a z6 with a vtec controller and a chipped pm6 and I would say its worth it to get the p28 and go obd1.

But for the track...say shannonville, I don't see why you wouldn't just run a A6 with a shaved head, hot cam and a header as really a stock z6 isn't anything special...but of course it will be better then your cx/dx motor.

Well, I got the Z6 for the price of an A6 and my mechanic has done many of these installs with OBD1 conversion, so I figured it was the safe bet. The whole swap should come in at less than 1000$CAD, including all parts and labour (and a stock P28). I'm sure a tuned A6 can be quite fast, but that kind of work is beyond my budget for now. Also, I want stock reliability, which is another reason I'm glad to be installing OBD1. There is hardly any mixing and matching of parts from different model years. The hyperduck website is extremely interesting, and I'll probably be sending them an email with further queries about their products. Thanks for the heads-up.
