Default Rear brake pads - track only (hatchback)

I ran my first two track events on Panther+ fronts and whatever generic pads came with my rear disc brake swap (probably stock). Stopping was good, but I didn't like the "wandering" feel that the rear had and decided that a little better rear pad would help the overall feel of the car.

So, I installed some Hawk HPS+ pads in the back. Overall feel was much improved right up until I locked the rear tires up. I guess I'd rather lock the rears than the fronts, but still... It should be noted that I was braking much harder than ever before and was actually my primary focus of day2.

I feel like if I could back down the rear pads just a little bit then I'd be happy. Is anyone familiar with these pads, and can recommend a possible replacement? I don't necessarily want to spend more money, but I'm considering it. I would rather stay with the Hawks than return to stock.

[edit] hatchback hybrid, 15" Azenis, GSR brakes all-around

this is not how I have my car set up; ideally, you want your front brakes to lock just slightly before your rears. In this situation, you maintain more control of your car in a panic stop. If the rears lock prematurely, you most likely will spin, especially if the wheel is turned one way or the other.

point taken...

I've intentionally taken steps to keep the car on the safe side, (read: not overly twitchy, or likely to swap ends) so to have the car like this now is a little disappointing.

I run stock shoes in the rear of my ITC CRX and stock prop valve and Hawk Blues in the front. In most of these cars, the rear brakes do very little since we are braking so hard when braking.

R4S in the rear is what I will try , I'm still on OEM in the back and same car , same brakes, same floating in the back under hard braking

Devin,
How long do the rear shoes last you?

John- I believe I have probably 9 races on them so far and they are holding up well. The car is very balanced under braking, even with 600 #/in rear springs and a large rear sway bar.

Good luck,
Devin

You may want to check your alignment. Don't some Hondas tend to develop a little toe out in the rear under braking due to bushing flex? I always ran a bit of toe-in in the rear (CRX).

Just a thought...

Mike
