I agree that a lower tie bar/strut brace would have helped spread the load, and may have prevented the part from breaking as thoroughly as it did. However, the shock that broke it was pretty serious: it took out a wheel, a tire, and the subframe in one go. Picture hitting a 6" curb at ~60mph. I suspect a brace would have transferred a lot of the load to the subframe attach points above the LCAs, and worsened the cracks there. In other words, though it would have helped I'm sure there's no "get out of jail free" bolt-on to save you from my fate.
