Default alternator wiring

what would be proper wiring for your alternator if you are running stand alone and no stock harness? this car will be driven on the street so it needs a alt..

ive searched and all i found was that you have to run 12v to the alternator and person who said it worked for them told me in pm that he fried 2 alt before giving up and continued to run battery only..

any help would be great.

wire it like it is factory. don't forget the signal wire that turns the alt on to actually charge the battery (i forget what color it is on the factory harness). i could lay it all out for you tomorrow when i have more time. but you should be able to find how its wired in its oem configuration.

there are 4 wires to the alternator. 2 to ecu and 2 others not sure which do what but i did find that i still have the inside harness still in the car.. so if i wire those 2 wires to the original spot on the rectangle plug that they went to oem it should work?

the 2 that go to the ecu have no place to go as i dont have the stock ecu..

What ecu are you using? Can you configure an input for it to send 5v signal to the alternator to turn it on? Cause that's what the ecu is seeing basically. Try postind in the drag forum. A few of those guys run motecs and know how to set up the alternator.

It really depends.

Some Alternators you can take all the way apart. Others you can't/will ruin trying to get them apart.

And it isn't even clearly defined which ones can be stripped and which can't. (FYI my experience is with a bunch of OBD1 B-series alternators)
