painting trunk interior
I want to paint my interior trim. I was cleaning it up and I don't want it to rust so I'm going to use some rust paint. What do I need to do first before painting it? Do I need to sand it or use paint thinner to clean it up first? I'm new at this so someone help me out please.

The same way you would prep any metal for paint. Sandpaper, moderate use of body filler if you want a smooth coat, primer... etc... depending on how nice you want it to look.
