Painting Roof Problem... Round 2
We sprayed primer sealer on the roof and go the roof perfectly smooth and ready for paint. We then painted the roof and jambs. Then painted the rest of the car and the whole car looks really good except for the roof. We did not spray clear yet. The roof is real blotchy. I wetsanded the base coat on the roof and it took away some of the blotchyness but you can still see it. Should i respray the roof and then wet sand or will the blotchy parts vanish when i clear the car? thanks

Are you spraying metallic paint? Sounds like you may have some mottling going on.
Cause:
An uneven distribution of metallic flake caused by:
Using a spray gun that gives an unbalanced spray pattern;
Improper application technique such as tilting the spray gun during application, causing the spray pattern to become heavy at the top or bottom.
Holding the gun too close to the surface (flooding);
Uneven spray pattern overlap;
Omitting/Improper use of mist coats.
Too much thinner/reducer. Color over thinned/reduced.
Applying clearcoat to a basecoat that has not thoroughly flashed/dried.
Improper application of basecoat (e.g. failure to apply or an improper use of a low pressure mist coat, wet basecoat application).
Solution:
To uniform single stage metallic finishes, apply a higher pressure mist coat, panel by panel, while previous coat is still wet.
Or, allow basecoat color to flash, then apply a low pressure mist coat.
Finishes that have dried must be sanded and refinished. Caution: Large areas of basecoat must have clearcoat applied before sanding. However, small nibs or lint may be removed from basecoat by wet sanding, concentrating only on the defect. Apply additional basecoat to the sanded area before clearcoating.

Maybe it's just not on evenly. It being shiny would mean that there is too much material in those areas, that's the only thing I can think of. Laguna Seca Blue is nice though, my buddy has an M3 in that color. Good Luck!

Sand off basecoat. Primer seal, re-base, and clear.
How is your air supply? Consistent, sufficient, and clean?
Proper distance from panel? Proper atomization? Proper spray technique?
Correct reducer for the right temperature range? Flash times correct?
What finish and type of paint below the newly coated?
The list goes on.
Good luck my friend.
