Default anyone ever paint a car?

im about to paint my car and i was wondering if anyone had any tips for me? i have done small projects before, but this will be my first full car. these are the steps i plan on taking:

-sand the original paint.
-primer coat
-600 wet sand
-primer coat
-600 wet sand
-primer coat
-600 wet sand
-color coat
-color coat
-color coat
-clear coat
-1500 wet
-clear coat
-1500 wet
-clear coat
-2000 wet
-polish

anyone know if this will be sufficient, or if any of the steps are not necessary? i will be doing this in my garage, should i staple a tarp to the ceiling/walls to keep out dust?

i edited what you originally had. you sand too much! this is assuming your body work is done and all you have to do is prep and paint

-wetsand the original paint with 400-600 or dry sand with a da using 800.
-wash car thoroughly and dry it.
-mask car.
-go over whole car with wax grease remover.
-go over whole car with tack rag.
-2-3 primer sealer coats depending on tech sheets. most say 2.
-color coat
-color coat
-color coat
-clear coat
-clear coat
-clear coat
-cure 24-48 hours depending on what tech sheets require.
-there are mutiple ways to cut and buff. the sand paper you start with depends on amount of orange peel. if orange peel is really bad you might want to start with 600-800 but be very careful.
-wet sand wit 1000 then 1500 then 2000. you can go up to 3000.
-polish with cutting compound and wool pad
-polish with machine glaze with foam pad.
-polish with hand glaze by hand or da using foam pad.

this is the way i do it.
-1500 dry with a dynabrade 3/32 orbit da
-3000 wet with a dynabrade 3/32 orbit da using 3m trizact 3000 grit foam paper
-polish with 3m perfect-it III machine glaze using wool pad and makita 9227c buffer.
-polish with 3m hand glaze using dynabrade 3/32 orbit da

there are other ways to do this too. just be careful when sanding and buffing around peaks and edges.
