Third day and its still not completely finished, still gotta polish the middle (pain in the a** to get to), and throw a few more layers of polish on it to get it really shinin' like a mirror!

Redid my valve cover today -- matte textured fade from bright blue to purple. Polished letters and such. Marc inspired me on this one.

How do you clean the oil out of the cover before you paint?? I have a valve cover that I picked up from a junkyard, but I need to clean the oil out first.

Thanks, but I tried that. Some of it is really thick and I can't get to it(behind the metal guard). I read somewhere to try mineral oil.

Just soak it in a mildly diluted solution of simple green or industrial purple (both from Home Depot) and it'll come out looking brand new. After you pull it out of the solution and it dries, take a rag with some WD40 or motor oil and rub it over the baffle to prevent flash rust if you think it'll take a few days to do all the painting and such.

Simple, just how I like it

Better angle of the plug cover shows the true color, I love it

i am not going to quote every pic in this quite well done process. if you would have used a white or silver textured base it would have come out as a more defined color. its the difference (not that i am comparing any one to a 4 year old coloring) between coloring on a white sheet of paper or a black sheet of paper. over all well done, immaculate attention to detail.

Well, finding a wrinkle white or silver would be pretty hard for most people that are shopping at autoparts and home improvement stores don't you think?

(But I understand what you're trying to say.)

well, maybe not wrinkle white, but a second coat of white on top of the black. but it did come out nice, and the engine bay is clean. wire tuck should be next. nice radiator though.
