Hi guys,

My civic hatch has a little rust spot right under the tail lights. The paint is still bubbling out. I was thinking of doing it myself. How should I appoarch this? What tools/materials should I use? Thanks in advance..

 

Do it old school and use fingernail polish.

 

Never heard of it before.. How do I begin? Does it require any sanding down?

 

The only way to repair rust is to get rid of it. Get a grinder, grind it down to where you see no more rust, just bare metal. If the rust is really bad it's all the way through the metal so you might have to cut the piece out and weld another piece of metal on. The primer, then paint.

If you just want to prevent a small rust spot from spreading take some motor oil and put it on the spot you want to prevent from rusting.

I was asking around and no one has heard of this method before..how does oil help the rust spot from getting larger?? May you explain...thanks
