i couldn't agree more, most people don't realize prep work is 80-90 percent of the whole process, after all the work i don't get why people use sh-t paint on it.
the only reason i see people use sh-t paint is when they don't really do or need prep work.
well, that's just me

boat paint is like 50 dollars , spray gun is like 200 plus compressor , expensive paint and primer plus clearcoat
I would rather someone tell me more about this as i have seen people talking about it , aparantly better than 50 dollar paint job

good luck, we are just saying if you are going to throw in 30 hr of prep work sanding and fixing sh-t up, might as well finish it with something better.
if you want it to look half decent, you will need to do body work on it, it doesn't matter it's fish oil, boat paint, rattle can, BASF or nector of god.
hey, here a news. SS doesn't even runs that much, maybe a couple hundred more but damn it, if it will last ten year more. you can do all the prep and have someone shoot the car, or rent a booth. ask around. they cost alot of money for a reason, they are chemically superior, meant to last and build for automotive use for everyday. Remember this, any paint job is as strong/good as the weakest link, you can block the darn thing str8 as hell for 2 week, when the crap **** paint starting to fade, bubble, chip, all the work are lost. we don't flame you because we do paint job with proper paint job material, we tell you not to because we been there.
anyways, good luck with the boat paint plan, post pictures

i painted my beat up pos miata with 500-600 worth of paint, DBC PPG paint BC/CC
save a little more and then do it with the right stuff.
you probably need 3qt of paint, a gallon or reducer, a gallon of clear, 3-4 qt of 2k primer/sealer.
and sh0t load of sand papers
spend a tad more now and don't have to fix it for um..ten year?

I suggest using the "Interlux Brightside" line of topside paints because they are proven to be much better than Rustoleum in regards to gloss (no comparison), and the use of UV inhibitors and protection.
I did my 93 Civic a year back and Interlux Brightside Black has been a pleasure to work with, and still glossy the day I rolled it on. No problems whatsoever.
I'm in Canada and purchased my paint at: http://www.foghmarine.com/index.asp
Good luck
