WTB: JDM D15b VTEC (92-95) CRANK
Looking for the odd ball JDM D15b crank that has both 45mm main journals (D15 size) and 45mm rod journals (D16 size).
I'd be willing to entertain purchasing a complete long block for the right price.
Shipped if necessary to 55038 (Hugo, MN).
Cheers,

I have a complete JDM D15B Vtec long block minus a few parts on the dizzy. Iordered the entire engine and tranny from a place in cananda and when we installed it there was a ticking near the bottom of the block. at that point i just ordered another from Hmotorsonline and swapped it. I have the entire engine, tranny and new napa clutch. entire engine for $300 ( i paid $1090 for engine & tranny shipped to my door step). not sure how much shipping would be. we are about 500 miles apart. if you want the whole engine i might be able to meet you in janesville wisconsin area for a little extra$ thats amost half way?? save a few hundred on shipping? let me know.

So basically you're running a Y8, groovy, mind the oil pump on that Y block!! Did you port it?
My build will be a tad different. I need to mill .55mm off the Vitaras to zero deck them. I may just deck the block another .45 and end up milling the Vitaras 1mm. After coating them they should be fine with the less material above the top ring. Also milling the head about 2mm. Static CR should be around 10:1. Adding a turbo it should have a nice flat torque curve, with a pretty fast spool (disco potato).

Y blocks have always suffered, and show it with oil starved and spun bearings furthest from the pump. My y8 had rod bearing failure, and when examined you can see how each rod bearing got progressively worse (1,2,3,4). #4 was cracked in half top and bottom, but luckily didn't spin in the journal.
The D16Y5/7/8 use the same oil pump, and the oil pump is finished like crap internally. To make things worse, the Y cranks have only one oil hole per journal where the z6/a6 cranks have 2.
To help remedy the problem of oil starvation you need to port the oil passages in the oil pump. The oil pump as a whole is a great piece, but poorly finished during manufacturing. There's a beautiful write-up on what the problem is HERE and how to fix it HERE.
Yes, I want high compression in my turbo build. :D We'll see if the rods can take the abuse from high compression and a good amount of boost. Looking for around 300whp, give or take 100, lol. It's all fun and a good learning experience. Maybe the pistons will melt, maybe they won't, never know until I try.

That's scary, I just have a brand new oil pump, nothing aftermarket in the pan, just the fjr rods and vitaras are down there in the block and the bisi, and supertech at top with a touch of skunk2. Well im not out to really dog on my whip, just want to enjoy it, took me 2-3 years to build and drove her for the first time last night, without problems. Stiff suspension made it quite a ride.

Sounds like fun, just take care of your oil and filter changes and don't over rev. Maybe when you feel ambitious you could drop the oil pan, remove crank pulley and remove the oil pump. It seems like a lot of work, but it's really not so bad. I replace all my bearings with the engine still in the car, just a bit messy.
Porting it isn't very difficult.
