Default Need feedback for suvlights.com harnesses

I just did the low beam conversion to 9005 (65w) bulbs on my CRX using Silverstars and the light output has improved a little bit compared to the 9006 bulbs (55w). With some research, I found this http://www.suvlights.com/produ...d=112 which basically sources direct power from the battery to increase voltage to the bulbs via relays on the harness. Just need some feedback from anyone that has used the product or similar and if it does in fact improve light output.

Looks like a great way to start a fire. Why do you need brighter lights?

dont pay for what you can easily do. all you need is relays and wire, and some confidence and experience with wiring. do it right and you wont have problems.

you basically run a larger power wire (with a fuse) from the battery to a relay that activates the lights.
btw the high beams dont need this, as they are plenty bright already.

come on kip yeah, who really needs bright lights.
The problem with factory headlight wiring is the tiny wires they use, plus the length or the wire.

Why is starting a fire always brought up when somebody wants to change some factory wiring. I would wager that metal intake pipes are responsible for more fires than shitty wiring! Factory wiring is modified a whole lot around here!
Besides the only changes are the relay the gauge of wire, and length of that wire. The wattage does not change.

If you should be afraid of anything starting a fire it should be the 9005 conversion, as it raises the intended wattage a bit. thats not too scary, but its not right.

and does this improve lighting? it does improve marginally.

So please explain what you are talking about grog...I am interested...

The single biggest change I made in headlight intensity was buying new oem housings and oem bulbs. Yes its expensive, but worth every penny.

I posted what I posted because I know how people work on their cars (especially on this site). and i didn't say bright lights if you actually read what i wrote, i said brighter. I've never had to modify my oem headlamps... w/ just regular old off the shelf AZ bulbs they work excellent.

But what do i know?

I also got new headlight housings, and wow its amazing what a little more reflection can do.

So to explain this "mod", its basicly beefing up the curcuit and running it more directly (shorter run of wire) with the use of a relay. The larger wire allows more current/amps/volts ,and less resistance. I remember reading that somebody tested the voltage through the factory harness and it was 9 volts or so. this will give you 12 volts for sure.

Factory wiring is skinny, long and convoluted, this "mod" basicly "fixes" those Inadequacy's.

Heres a working link (same as above), they explain it better but they are also selling it.... so .http://www.suvlights.com/index.php?cPath=24_73 you could copy this kit by running 12 guage wire's from the battery to 2 bosch 40 amp relays, then the relay to the lights. I used the factory headlight wire for the relay signal.

Thanks for the input so far. Why do I need brighter lights? Safety. The light output is just not bright enough in comparison to my 99 Civic SI OEM lighting. I've thought about buying new housings but decided to try the 9005 low beam conversion first as it has been a tried and true method of increasing light output by other competent people in this forum so fire and other safety issues have been eliminated before I went ahead and did this. HID kits are out of the questions simply because the light projection is not proper and the overall costs of retrofiting and HID kits could get expensive. I figured there has to be some voltage drop on the headlights so the pre-built harnesses with the relays looked like a good option to give the headlights stable voltage. I just wanted to know if there would be a visible difference in light output. I may just make it myself since I've done a similar relay addition to my fuel pump which now sees a steady 13v at any given load. I'll just go ahead add the relays on there and post the results if it turns out good.
