When it come to PNP kits I say never spend over a hundred bucks, most kits are made in the same plants and it's only dealer cost that you're paying extra for. Most "warranties" are as good as the sellers word, which in most cases isn't....

CD as in Accord...

What model year does that chassis code correspond with? If the headlamps use 9006 bulbs, the best option in terms of performance value would be a pair of HIR bulbs.

I can almost guarantee a $100 PNP HID kit's ballasts would not last as long as my Philips HID ballasts have. This coming December will be 5 years since I first got my Philips ballasts, and they're still going strong. Also my current Philips D2S bulbs will be 4 years old next February.

When I was in college I used to drive LOTS of miles at night. I also used to drive 100 miles a day to and from work, at least half or sometimes all of it w/ headlights on (especially in winter).

Umm yea my "shitty" ballasts have better sealing than my Hella Gen 3 ballasts... Plus with most units the failure point is the bulb before the ballast unless it's water damage (which I've seen plenty of OE units fail from). When I say a cheap 100buck kit, I'm saying if you want PNP don't spend more than 100 bucks as I explained above. I claim not quality of the units nor do I claim them to be better than OE's.

Oh and how black is the salts in your bulb when cooled?

I have no idea, didn't pay attention when I had the bulb out a couple months ago.

My ballasts are mounted under my bumper beam in an area that does get wet when it rains, but with the plastic ballast covers, they still work great even being in that location for over 3 years.

How did you determine that your cheap ballasts have better sealing than your Hella gen 3's (which are the same as my Philips LVQ-212's, w/ built-in ignitors)?

The black salts are a key sign of age of the bulb, the larger the amount the older the bulb. Older bulb yields lower output than new bulbs as well as with the photo's I've seen (side by side of same bulb/matching housing but one had a good burn time on it) some bulbs will actually put out a lesser spread of light (less width on cast)...

I've opened the cheapo's and see open pics of the Hella's and the cheapo's have a sillicon/rubber gasket on both sides that squishes down when the lid is screwed down as well as the black goop poured in. The Hella's have only the goop/jelly in and around the components but no full seals... Oh and the cheapo's I've got are Hella Gen 3 copies so I could actually steal the seals from them to my hella's if I wanted to but the two sets I have are either double plastic bagged or mounted away from being able to get wet....
