Clutch or Throwout Bearing?
EP3 2005 Civic Si Hatch. Bone-stock.
I'm guessing I need a new clutch, but I thought I'd make a quick post to see if there's an obvious sign I may be wrong. I've done some internet searching, but no smoking gun.
This morning when I started the car it I felt some vibration in my foot when I depressed the clutch in neutral. I also heard some noise...like maybe the flywheel was spinning.
When starting off in first gear, there is a lot of vibration & the car chatters a bit. I need to rev it a little more to get it moving.
I've ordered and OEM Exedy clutch kit and found a garage who is familiar with k-series engines (Jacksonville, FL) to swap the clutch...but I'd like some assurance that there isn't something else wrong before I bring it in there.
I remember hearing the old-school way to test your clutch is to nose your car against a tree, and let it out in 5th gear. If the clutch is still functioning the car will stall out. I haven't done this yet, but figured I'd post and see if anyone has any specific experiences.
