What would you do? - B18C5 in a 92 HB
I ran into some trouble with the ref. They have me red flagged now so I can only go there to get my car smogged/registered. I can either put a stock OBDI motor in there, and it should pretty much pass. Wouldn't be too difficult. Or would you try to convert the whole car to OBDII emissions. I have a 2001 USDM ITR motor, P28 ecu currently. I started gathering some parts for the emissions changeover. I currently have an ITR EVAP cannister and sensor, ITR cat, 2nd O2 sensor, TYPE R Fuel tank, and I believe all the IAB, IAC, IAT stuff. I know I will need a P73 ecu. I know I'm asking for a it when I want to get this car comepletely legit. What else would I need that I didn't list?
Should I swap in a stock D motor, get it to pass, then drop in the B motor? Or should I just continue with the epic journey of getting it to OBDII land?
Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

You could contact a member by the name of Jeff652. I know that he had a carbed ITR motor in his 92-95 Civic. He could prolly give you some good advice

Why can't you just run the ITR as OBDI? It will pass the emissions tests. Just don't use a "Chipped" ecu since they run rich as hell.

I am a friend of Jeff 652 and I have my car wired OBD2 like his.
The Law states that ifyou are to put a different motor in a car (and the car is not smog exempt) the motor has to be the same year as the car or newer. And the car has to use the smog equiptment that applies to the year of the motor. So for instance: I have 93 CX Civic HBBD1(92-95).......I am running a 98 TypeR MotorBD2(96-00), so car must run on 98 ECU and all emissions equiptment to pass referee.
I added all emissions sensors and made my own custom Adapter harness for the OBD2 ECU. It runs great!!
I suggest you take the OBD2 route, because then you get a carb sticker. A cop pulls you over to harass you and he sees the sticker when you pop your hood and all he can do is bite his lip. Also after you have the ref sticker you can then register your car with the TypeR Motor in it, so insurance has to recognize the increased value of your car with the motor in there. Then if the unthinkable happens at least you get paid for the car and the TypeR swap.
I can walk you through the OBD1-OBD2 process. I have been meaning to post a tech article on it for a year now.
I recomend doing the week long conversion. It saves you money, elbow grease, fines, and sweating it when cop pulls behind you.
My 02 Cents at least.

Mine went up $33.51 a year. Not a bad trade off since they would have to pay me 4k for the car and 6k for the motor.

Did the ref state that you needed an OBDII fuel tank? Because of the vapor recovery system and what not. Where did you get most of your parts from and what seemed to have the most difficulty in getting it to OBDII? Thanks.

I'm getting a 94-95 gsr motor put into my 92 hatchback. Do you guys think I'd have a problem passing at the ref with just a carb legal intake and high flow cat?
I just bought the hatchback recently...so smog should not be due til another 2 years. I'm worried that if I don't pass for some reason....I'll be in a world of sh*t.

You just have to wire everything up right. Seems like it'd be an easy deal.
Everything is already OBD 1.
