Default B18c5 ITR MOTOR in %th Gen civic HB

Hey All

I am in a predicament right now. I need to decide on my next project car. There is only one thing I need to know now is how difficult is it to swap a b18c5 (JDM ITR MOTOR) into a 5th generation Civic HB. If you have done this before I need to know how to do it and where I can find the instrutcions to do this. -=SpOon=-

its a matter of bolting the motor in and using a harness adapter for the ecu. nothing to it.....

I just finished up my B16B CTR into a 92 CX. Just like doing a USDM swap with a few differences. You need to change out the engine harness to a USDM one. You also will need to get an ecu adapter or rechip a p28. Good luck....

GOD DAMN IT!

Why do you guys always say "change out the engine harness..."

KEEP the damn ITR harness and it will PLUG right in! I've done 3 of these swaps, including my own and the OBDII ITR harness will PLUG into the underhood harness on the Civic. Why keep the poo pooy old Civic injectors and re-wire the ITR distributor if you don't have to?

From there don't even bother with the crappy-*** ITR ECU - get a P28 re-chipped from kenji here on H-T and then run better for cheaper.

Harness to run the poo pooy *** OBDII ITR ECU requires wiring up more sensors, and it will still SUCK. It also costs $250 for a harness.

P28 will run OBDI and have YOUR preferred specs AND costs only $150 for the program.

Do a search on this topic and you'll see that I've had to say this same thing like 6 different times because people are misinformed about the harness not plugging in.

I have that swap. I never had to swap out the engine wiring harness. I used a re-chipped p28 (better and less complicated then the jumper harness and stock ECu which is govern'd @ 130 mph). Also when using the rechipped P28 you'll have to swap out the vtec solenoid that comes with the motor. Oil pressure for vtec is tapped off. Im for more info.

B18C5-EH2
The reason I said for him to change out the engine harness is he said he was going to use a JDM engine not a USDM. JDM harness' will not work in a usdm car. The ecu is on the wrong side, plugs for body harness are on the wrong side, etc. That is why I had to change the harness on the B16B into my hatch. A USDM B18C5 harness will indeed plug in. No need to change it out. I just see absolutely no way that you can make a JDM right hand drive engine harness work in a left hand drive USDM car.......

sorry man i was just to lazy to post it earlier https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=106400. Dont listen to what everyone else is saying it gets so damn confusing with everyones opinions on what you have to do. One person says one thing and the other says the exact opposite and they are usually both wrong.

b18c5-eh2 works in a dream world where theyve done this swap many times and he talked to there mechanic for me.HE was a huge help.

the second page of that post basically has your 2 options of putting in the motor. go check it out and let me know how the swap goes

Oh my bad I GUESS, since he DID say B18C5, which to me denotes the USDM motor swap. Everything I said about the swap does apply to the USDM ITR B18C5 swap.

IF he really is using a JDM ITR swap, then he will need to use his Civic engine harness and injectors, and rewire the distributor on the JDM motor.

IF you run a re-chipped P28 ECU then you will also have to add a VTEC Oil Pressure switch since the JDM ITR has none and the P73 ECU doesn't look for one. The P28 does look fot the switch though.

On the distibutor just combine the 2 plugs into one and you're set.

I can't truly speak from experience since I've not a canadian swap, BUT I can't see it being any different than the USDM ones.

Should still plug in if it's like the USDM ones.

Mine plugged in just as the stock motor did. I had a few plugs left over on the ITR harness like for an extra sensor here, A/C stuff there, and I think for an ABS pump plug too ( I *think* that's what it was). Just use all the plugs on the sensors for the motor and the left over plugs can be tucked away.

From there you don't even have to wire up a knock sensor because your P28 doesn't read for one, and if you've got a 1992 Civic you won't even need to wire up VTEC. If it's like my swap then it is total plug and play with the P28 ECU.
