Default What is the vtec difference B16/GSR???

Ok I did a search here because I have a B16 sold to me by a friend a while ago...now the head he says it was a gsr head then he said it was a b16...so my question is...my vtec kicks in a 4400rpm and then i hear the secondary at about 5200-5500rpm...does the B16 have this or is it just the GSR that has vtec at 4400rpm and secondary at about 5200rpm?..this is how I can figure out if its a gsr or not i guess...and my vtec head looks a lot bigger than my friends b16 head and it looks just a little different so who knows if I have a GSR...i hope i have the b16 though because it's better...also whats funny is that when i got the head the sensors on it were for obd-1 and not obd-0

obd-1 heads from a 92-93 GSR are virtually identical to B16 heads.

the obd-1 94-95 GSR head is different and commonly understood as "the GSR head" since it has a different bolt pattern on the intake manifold and is the only head with that configuration.

b16a's dont have secondarys.

b16a and b18c heads are the same size.

there intake manifolds are way different. but i believe the 92-93 gsr intake looks similiar to the b16a one.(not sure about that one)

i dont understand why that's funny? there were no obd0 gsr heads. they all came obd1 or newer.

well someone correct me if i'm wrong on any of this.

Well I said it's funny because the guy sold me the head saying that it is a b16 and b16 were obd-0 sensors but i have obd-1 sensors which also makes me believe i have a gsr, that and the secondaries...thanks for the reply

look on your head and see if it says "P72"(GSR) or "PR3"(B16A) . there should be numbers in the front of the head and around the distributor.

When we say secondaries we mean for the secondary butterfly valves on the gsr intake manifold the one that looks like an upside down manifold and if you haev a b16 manifold even with a gsr ecu you wouldn't hear the difference because it wouldn't be doing anything different.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the gsr and b16 head have a completely different combustion chamber design?

b16's dont have secondary butterflys. so therefore a gsr ecu would do nothing.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by incognitoracerr &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I do...maybe its the gsr ecu that i am using that's kicking it in?</TD></TR></TABLE>

yes they do. a p72 head has rectangular shaped chamber yeilding more compression
