Default What are the Odds of a bad Motor?

Well today i just bought a b16a2 and well im kinda worried that there are going to be problems with the motor... everyone that sells motors say about 30k miles on them but how do they know?

also is there anyway to test the motor?... i have to go wensday to get it installed so yeah.... please your thoughts are needed...

anything dumb please just dont post...

compression and leakdown, the leakdown test can be done on the pallet. you can do a comp test also but the engine may want to walk around while cranking.

Could i make the shop do it in front of me? and what should i be looking for while they do the test?

you take a chance in buying a used motor no matter what. and they all say that they are 30,000 miles. some look like 300,000 miles though! i'm sure its been compression tested fine. but i've had motors from places that spun bearings after a week and those compression tested fine. its a coin toss.. most of them are good and run fine. i'm sure that place has no warranty except for startup. since these are sold as "race" applications. and i've even had semi beat up looking motors run really good.. the one thing you could do is take off the valve cover and inspect to see if there is brown or black buildup. if everything looks clean then the previous owner probably was pretty good with servicing the motor frequently. as i've seen some pretty disgusting motors with a ton of brown and yes even black gunk all over the rockers and cam caps and all top end parts..
