Re: Swap Poll (crxspeedemon)
well i don't know about ks but most cars w/ swaps in ny for sale are skechy something that we call ghetto tec or an urban motor or hpc (hunt's point crusier...if your from ny/nj you know what i mean)....what this means is that the car or motor is a complete hack job has multiple (as in like 3+) harnesses in it and half of the basic accesories don't work...most likely has a salvage title, runs 13's and papers for the motor well...."ummm i can't find them right now i'll fax them to you later" if you have the apitude and time i would recomend doing your own swap...if anything goes wrong you know what's going on.
edit: plus when you start it and bang a shift in vtec it feels good knowing you that YOU built it.

Re: Swap Poll (dohcsideSi)
I purchased a car with a swap and it was a pos. The next car I got I swapped it myslef and it was a lot better. The only way to know that everything is right is to do it yourself. If thats not possible than take it to a reputable shop

Re: Swap Poll (Rratedcivichatch)
Easy answer, would you sleep in a bed that was already there before you bought the house.
Better to have peace of mind knowing where the engine came from and what type of condition it's in

NO car should be beaten on. thats how **** breaks.
racing every now and then is fine, if you take care of it
but if you beat the **** out of the car everytime you drive it
i hope it breaks. common sense.

DIY
The knowledge you gain is invaluable and the money you save is better spent on something else. Plus, you have a huge wealth of information available to you on this board and elsewhere. The proceedure is probably the most well documented piece of auto mechanics on the planet (except for domestics of course and I would hardly call that 'High Tech' )

i think you fell alot better about your car when you do your swap urself with the help of friends....its an awesome learning experience for everyone...im in the middle of an h22 into my 97 dx...sure its a pain in the *** and sometimes i wish someone else would just do it for me, but i know when i get done if i do it myself i will appreicate it more...thats my opinion

People swap motors to go fast so chances are if you buy a car with a swap already, you have a car on it's last leg. If you do it yourself you know the history of the motor from the time it goes in your car (well the motor is used anyway but you see what i'm saying ). Alot of people get rid of cars because they know something is either broke or gonna be broke real soon.
I took my last civic with a sohc vtec swap to the track alot and put over 100 passes on it not to mention all the abuse I did to it on the street. Then someone else bought it. It was in perfect condition when I sold it but it was really used. The civic threw a rod shortly after he bought it

Re: Swap Poll (nsxmatt)
I say to buy a car without a swap and then do the swap yourself (with some friends, a few 18 packs and an engine hoist) thats the only way you will know it will be done right.I tried buying a car that a local shop had done and they absolutely destroyed this car putting a16A1 in it, I slowly fixed nearly everything that they did wrong, built LSVTEC and then the head liftwed off the motor. Next time it will be a B18A1 turbo in a different CR-X, one that is dead stock when I get it.

i wouldnt trust somebody i dont know
i hear that, I won't bring my car to a shop unless i truly trust them and can get it fixed in a timely manner.
I'll learn and do it myself if I have to
