ok heres the problem:

so im driving, and decide to go up past the good ol 4500 rpm mark and hit some vtec y0, but the thing was there was no vtec. then i tried in 2nd gear and there was. 3rd, 4th and 5th all would engage vtec but 1st wont.

i just realized this problem 2 nights ago, but thought nothing of it till it did it all day today. has this happened to anyone before? i thought it was very strange, called up a few friends and they had no clue either. im going to look over the motor tomorrow, but was just trying to get some insight before i go looking for something thats an easy fix. thanks everybody for any help, i will be very greatful

oh yeah i almost forgot, the car is a 97 dx hatch and the motor is a 98 usdm b18c1.

check your oil level
