Default vtec problem

I notice that in 4th gear when vtec engages, it goes on and off before it stays on.

Kinda hard to explain. When I hit 5k rpm it sometimes goes on, off, on, off, then stay on. What could cause that?

I haven't checked for a dirty screen, I hope that this is the problem. I did get a vtec error code way back when but it went away.

is it only in 4th gear?
if it happens in other gears as well then should probably check your oil.

thats what the problem with my friends GSR was when he kept blipping in and out of vtec. (ended up being a quart short of what he should have been running because it got burned off)

Sorry i couldn't be of more help im a Nissan buff

i had the same problem except that it was in pretty much every gear....it would engage sometimes and stay on or cut off and other times wouldnt engage at all.... the only thing i had to do was clean the screen and its been fine since i did that about 3-4 months ago, but if that doesnt work check your oil like ShiftStain V3.0 said

Usally if you are low on oil vtec wont kick on at all. but blip **** seems reasonable as well. check oil first, check screen 2nd. does your car have a little bit of throttle lag? like u push the throttle down and it takes a second for the car to catch up ?

wait..wut "screen" are you guyz talking about?

I'm kinda getting the same thing....throttle lags sometimes, but one thing i noticed the car slows down really quickly when not on the gas

I noticed one more thing..i cruise doens't work. The light goes on but doesn't hold the speed. And i do believe it happened exactly when this did.

So is this a throttle thing?

the screen is on the vtec solenoid....once you take it off and look it at there will be a lil screen you can take out (just be careful when you take it out) and i just cleaned mine out with carb cleaner and it worked fine, or you can order one from autozone for a few bucks i believe.

alright..its not the screen, that thing is coo.

Anyone have any idea? Like i said I noticed my cruise control doesn't work, it doesn't hold speed, light goes on but it does nothing..and I haven't had any codes thrown at me yet..its been 140 miles. Anyone have any clue? I heard cruise control operates by vaccums from the intake manifold..maybe I have a vaccum leak?
